Hoping for a puppy...

But the waiting to find out if there will be any puppies at all is driving me mad. I'm thinking about it constantly and can't switch off. I really do have more pressing things to be concerned about.

We (the family) have met the breeder, the bitch in question, their other dogs and we're all in love. They said they had a successful mating (whatever that means) at the start of July but will still be a while until they know for definite, and any pups due in September. We're all getting rather impatient to find out but I dare not email again.

No point to my post really, I'm just wondering if everyone feels like this?

Definitely know the feeling Grin

Our two youngest dogs were both from litters that we were waiting for before the breeder had even 100% decided which stud dog she was using.

It was bad enough waiting for the pregnancies to be confirmed but miles worse waiting for the birth announcement. I was leaping for my phone every time I got a text round the due date in case it was the breeder. I was even the same when she bred her most recent litter which we weren't even getting a puppy from because I knew I'd get invited for puppy cuddles

Definitely worth the wait though, my boys are lovely.

Oh I'm so glad that I'm not the only one that's like thisSmile

I'm hoping that it will be worth the wait, even if we're not lucky this time round. This will be her first litter so it's all a bit unknown. They have no plans to mate any of their others, so we're really keeping our fingers crossed.

I so want to email them to ask if she's been scanned yet I'm having to sit on my hands!

Sorry I forgot to ask, did you ask the breeder to provide you updates, or did they offer?

I'm not sure what is the done thing, but I'm we're all desperate to know if she's expecting at least. Obviously that still doesn't mean we will be lucky come the autumn, but I just want to know!!!

They kept me updated with no prompting from me but I'd already had a pup from them previously (litter was already born when I made contact) and we were in regular contact anyway.

I'm not sure there is much of a done thing, it depends on the breeder. Some will let everyone on the waiting list know as soon as the pregnancy is confirmed (or otherwise) whereas some won't want to tempt fate and will leave it closer to the due date to let everyone know.

I'm in the same boat.

My puppy's breeder is fabulous. I've been on the list for a few months now and the mating won't be until near the end of the year. No guarantees of course - there might not be enough puppies born - but they scan at 5 weeks PG so we'll know more then. After that there'll be puppy cam to watch obsessively peek at from time to time.

I met the breeder a few weeks ago, along with several of my future puppy's relatives (agility show so loads there competing) and it's made me even more desperate to get mine!

The waiting is awful isn't it. I'm sure I didn't feel this nervous when pregnant myselfSmile

I need to be strong and not e-mail to ask for an update. Like you say, they would probably say if there was any news. And I don't want to be a pain. Probably just as well they don't do a puppy cam, or nothing would get done!
