Does anyone use Tails.com for their dogs food?

Just wondering if they're any good. I can't see why they'd be bad if they tailor make the food though.

Hello, this thread is a little old now, but if, like the OP, you’re looking for dog food from Tails.com you can get your own from here. MNHQ.

Looks like a gimmick to me. The tailor made food for my lab I wouldn't feed him, chicken is a cheap meat, its filled with beet pulp and gravy digest. Added salt, First food had grains including maize so I had to go back and exclude.

Tells me to feed >400g a day which is much more than my current food and its more expensive than current higher quality food.

My pug loves it. He's not putting on weight and all seems good. Delivery and measure scoop v handy.

Should point it pug eats grain free.

undoubtedly dogs will love it because its got flavour enhancers in it like salt and the undefined "gravy" digest which could be anything.

For the cost to feed per day there or many higher quality foods without the extra nasties.

I asked about the gravy and chicken and was told this :
Thank you for getting in touch. I am very sorry to hear that you have been unable to exclude chicken from Hennessey's blend.

I have checked your account and this is because you have also excluded 'grain' from his food. Our grain free range of kibbles are chicken flavoured at the moment, but we are constantly improving and expanding our variety and hope to be able to provide a suitable alternative in the future.

Much like the gravy we have on our Sunday roasts, the gravy we use on our kibbles is made by processing meat, offal and bones, and is generally used as a coating on the kibble to make sure the nutritious food tastes delicious to your dog.

From their 1000s of recipes a chicken and grain free option is not available. Most dog owners want grain free and chicken, cheap meat, is an allergen for a lot of dogs and they don't cater for it in their 1000's of recipes.

Gravy Digest is a big red flag in dog foods, they aren't specifying lamb digest, or beef digest that's a secret Hmm. It is nothing like the gravy you get from your Sunday roast.

Digest is widely used to improve the taste of dog foods. It is formed from the breakdown of animal tissue through chemical or enzymatic hydrolysis and is therefore sometimes listed as hydrolysate. Digest is a controversial ingredient mostly due to the way it is produced. The process of chemical/enzymatic hydrolysis is far from what most people would regard as 'natural' and it is therefore widely criticised.........

Nothing in their foods (apart from the gimmicky online options and packaging with ddogs name on it) justifies the steep price.

Bet if you asked they'd even have a reason for added salt.........

Well my dog thrives on Tails and the Vet says she is healthy and her weight is good for her age and size. I also don't find it over priced. Well worth it for the convenience too 😃

It doesn't get a particularly good nutrition rating from All About Dog Food. www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/dog-food-reviews/1334/tails

There are cheaper and more nutritious dog foods out there.

I just read up on Tails. It looks great to be fair. Not expensive either

Just took a look and wouldn't touch it myself.

Less than 50% actual meat and padded out with maize, beet pulp, rice etc.

Just didn't seem that brilliant and there are much bterr options for the same money (e.g. Millie's Wolfheart).

Don't think it's 'tailored' so much as they have several different kibbles they combine for you.

I had the fortnight's free trial for one of my dogs. It gave him the runs. When I gave feedback and said I wouldn't be ordering again they had no suggestions of food that would be suitable.

We tried it and my dog loved it but developed a UTI almost straight away so even if I don't know if it was the food, we stopped it and he has never had another UTI

We did but my dog went off it after 3 months (tbf he is fussy). Also, I was convinced the amounts they suggested we fed him were not enough.

MsMiaWallace · 08/08/2018 08:42

The food they suggested for us was 67% chicken. I thought that was pretty good.

When I got my cockapoo at 4 months old she wouldn't eat a thing. I had numerous attempts of pretending to eat her food on my hands and knees like a dog to try and get to her to go anywhere near her food. Tried several dry and wet foods from well known brands and she just wouldn't eat it. When she did eat them she would have an upset stomach. She obviously was very thin and underweight as she wouldn't eat regularly. Since going onto tails food she demolishes the food within 5 minutes and she's starting to put weight on. She loves the mix of dry and wet food. So if you are doubting the product, then don't. It's fab and works amazing for my 1 year old pup.

I'm just in the process of cancelling with them. The food is great for my dogs and i find the price ok but they use Yodel to deliver and the 1st delivery they put in my bin on top of the rubbish. 2nd they left outside a neighbours house with no calling card and 3rd they just put a card through the door but didnt knock or ring the bell. Xxx

I tried them but thought it was just OK. I cancelled because of Yodel messing up the delivery like the previous poster. I have gone over to Essentialls. I seems expensive but it goes much further than the tails and the dog loves it.

I have a very fussy eater who usually gets the runs from whatever food I’ve tried her on. I’ve recently signed up to Tails after having the first month free, Scout loves it and the vet even commented on how good her coat is.

Code KATIE7WB gives the first month free :)

My Mini Dachsund loves his maize free grain free Tails food! His coat is so much shinier now too, he used to be on Royal Canin but he's a fussy eater and didn't like that!
If you want to try Tails you can use my referral code HOLLY8S6 for your first month free! I got a free scoop and bowl when I signed up too

Ive been researching dog food a lot over the past year or so and have tried most types and brands available ( have a very sensitive dog and have had countless issues and medications over the past 9 years ). I found pure pet food at the start of this year and it has worked wonders! I almost feel guilty for not finding it sooner but hey ho :-( its just made with human quality food exactly like what we should be eating and isnt processed. They air dry the raw ingredients and I add water to his meal to rehydrate it. I like that there's no fillers or chemicals in it whatsoever and its proper food! Biscuits are not food! He has the sensitive skin recipe but there's one for fussy dogs and for sensitive tummies and some for things like colitis and pancreatitis aswell which is good. I got half price for his first box too to make sure it was ok so defo worth a try if you're looking for something healthy :-)

Mine is on tails. She’d been on prescription food for pancreatitis but hated it. Previously on barking heads which she loved. She’s ok on tails but doesn’t love it. I’m going to ask the vet if she can go back on BH but the slim dog version. But I know on all about dog food the slim version doesn’t score as well as the standard food. But the regular won’t be good for her pancreas.
