Hi my 5 month old springer got attacked earlier by another dog thankfully he is okay it was a pretty bad attack as it took us to throw the dogs into a pond to get the other dog of mine. That was after 6 of us tried to seperate. My puppy now has bumps that have come up around his neck there are no puncture wounds to the area although just below the neck the skin is a tad pink than normal and what looked like a puncture wound it just seems to be an imprint of the tooth which hasn't split the skin but my vet advised to give him half a paracetamol. After seeing contradicting advice on this I'm worried to give it to him. Can anyone advise as I hate the idea of him being in some pain but also don't want to do anything that could be harmful.

I always thought paracetamol was poisonous to dogs?

Am suprised teh vet didn't prescribe expensive dog pain killers, my vet is certainly quick to!

It's not toxic as long as you don't exceed the dose which is quite small in dogs.

Erm, why did you bother asking your vet if you just want the advice of strangers?

You can't give paracetamol to dogs without the advice of a vet because the dosage is different to humans and they have less tolerance for error with it so it can be potentially quite dangerous.

At the right dosage with veterinary advice it's absolutely fine.

Paracetamol can be given to dogs and my practice regularly prescribes it. It is a different dose to humans though so only give it on veterinary advice.
