I'm so sorry about the loss of your lovely girl. It sounds like you had many wonderful years with her. It is so very hard on the heart when we lose a beloved pet. I have a prayer I say when when of my animals dies...
Fly your soul to the arms of the Mother and know that those who love you, Remember you.

It's an awful feeling, I know exactly how you feel.
Take care of yourself. You will feel better in time, but you never forget them.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Would you like to tell us something about her?

I am sorry to hear about your girl, I was in your position a year ago when we had to do the same for our beloved, beautiful Lab. If it would help to talk about her we would love to hear more.

Thank you kind posters for your understanding, it can seem ridiculous to some to be so low over a dog...

She was a big bundle of hyperactive energy till 6 years old and we had to be so creative to wear her out, hiding things for her to fetch and sniff out, cycling for hours with her running.

The she calmed down around the time my 2 dc were born a year apart and became the most gentle loving kind companion, she kept me company when my dh was overseas and l was up all night with babies in a strange city where l knew no one.

She was so careful with 2 babies, then toddlers, then small children, and loved them totally, but she was always most loyal to me.

She also got me through some very sad times which l could not bear to discuss with anybody, always keen for a walk and delighted to see me.

If l am honest as long as she was there, l felt all was fine in the world and l could cope with anything and truly never felt lonely. l have been so lucky to have had such a wonderful dog.

Now l feel as though my world has shifted and l have lost my bearings.

Dragongirl,
I know exactly how you feel, 1 year ago today we lost our 8 year old springer unexpectedly and under awful circumstances.
Today, the anniversary, has been awful, but it does slowly get easier.
I have always had dogs, but he was special, a terrible thing to say, but I've found it harder to get over losing him than my parents.
But in the words of some crappy 70's show which I can't remember,
"its better to have loved and lost, than not have loved at all"
(probably)
Please be kind to yourself, she was lucky to have an owner who loved her so much.{flowers}

Twrch,

l am so sorry to hear about your springer spaniel, they are such wonderful dogs, and 8 is so young.

I know exactly what you mean about one being special, our previous family dogs were sad to see go but this is so different and much harder. She was truly my dog it was such a connection.

Often l felt she was the only one who loved me unconditionally. Do you have another dog ?

Oh, I'm so sorry.

I realised the other day that my dog is my best friend and my heart would break if anything happened to her. And I've only had her six months.

l have just picked up my dogs ashes from the vet, I had her cremated so we had something to remember her by. It was difficult walking in to the vets, my vet was so wonderful with her as she got old and had to have various treatments.

koala, cherish you lovely dog because that relationship grows every year and it is such a simple daily joy.

We still have Smudge's ashes, Tuesday will be the first anniversary of losing him. We were going to scatter him at the beach but I can't quite bring myself to let go just yet. Mind you, we will never fully let go because our collie ate some of his ashes just after we got her last year. Cowbag. It's hard isn't it? No-one warned me owning a dog would be as all encompassing as it is but yet it is so worth it.

Hellhas...your collie sounds true to type..they will eat anything, this proves it!

They do almost take over your life but in a good way, if only all the humans in my life had loved me so unconditionally.......
