The doghouse

My dog's poo - is this something that needs to be checked?

I've tried my dog on raw food, she just does not like it despite being a lab who will eat anything and everything so I'm taking her off it and will put on back on a decent dry. Am currently looking into Millie's WH.

Anyhoo, for a couple of days she's had soft (not runny) poop which has slimy clear stuff on it, looks a bit jellified! Is this anything I should be worried about? She's fine in herself, playing, eating other food (plain fish/chicken/rice until I sort her food) so am I worrying over nothing?

She's never had this in the 2 years of having her and she's my first dog so I do worry.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Did you change her food slowly? Changing too quickly can upset their tummy/digestion. So when you get her new food, remember not to switch too quickly Smile

Sometimes a dogs system will clear itself when food is changed if the previous food has a lot of additives in it .

It could also be a protein in the new food which doesn't agree with your dog .

I highly recommend Millie's Wolfheart , mine get this when not on raw .

Which RAW did you feed ?

If you are wanting to stick with it I find Rawfeeding Rebels a really helpful group .

Thanks for answering. She was on Nature's Menu following recommendations from a friend. She ate it the first day after was sat there for about an hour which is totally unusual for a lab Grin

Before that she was Royal Canin Maxi Light as she's a bit of a chubber, this was on the vet's recommendation, but she has quite dry skin and this seemed to make it worse. I wanted to start her on something more natural so thought raw was the way forward but the only thing she liked were the raw lamb necks. She is now back on the Royal Canin but there's only a bit left so I have today ordered some MWH which I'll introduce gradually.

I'm not too bothered about her having raw, just something a bit more 'healthy' than the dry food with grain etc.

Our raw feed dog couldn't handle natures menu, doesn't like it at all.

I have heard a few people say that when feeding natures menu .

Also royal canin has a lot of of fillers/carbs to bulk it up which would cause a " clean out " when transferring to raw Wink

I bet you will find a huge difference with Millies wolfheart, my 2 are looking amazing on it & the out put is almost a joy to clean up considering how our labrador was when he came to us !

Also the advice we have had from the Millie's team has been outstanding ,it's worth ringing if you've any questions at all about weight or itching .

Well I'm pleased to report that DDog's poop is back to normal, no more slime so it looks like it was the change in food. Still waiting on MH food to arrive so she's still eating RC but I'll introduce the new stuff gradually and hopefully we won't have a repeat.

Thanks for all your advise Smile
