Hello
After doing a lot of research and thinking for a few years we have decided that we are finally in a position to have a puppy. We are considering buying a miniature schnauzer from a kennel club registered breeder that would be available for homing at the beginning of April. My worry is that we have booked a two week holiday abroad in august. Is it ok for a puppy of that age (would be 5-6 months old) to go to a pet sitters or a kennel for this length of time? Many thanks in advance for any advice :-)

As long as they are up to date with their vaccinations. There shouldn't be a problem. Ur dog will also need it's kennel cough vaccine too

Thank you for your reply. Yes we would make sure we had all
Necessary vaccinations. I think I'm
Concerned as a friend told me it would be cruel to go away whilst the puppy was so young. As I'm
Trying to do everything I possibly can to be a responsible dog owner I am trying to find out as much as I canq

Will a kennel take a puppy under 6 months?
Not saying they won't but my SIL struggled to find one to take her 5 month old Lab puppy

If you ask the breeder they will sometimes take one of their own pups back for holidays, depends on the relationship you have with them.

Alternatively look for someone who does home boarding that could take puppy & take him for a few settling in visits (once he's established at home) to get to know them & their dogs.
