Help with crate training at night

We have just got a 9 week old lab puppy. Last night was night 3 of constant whining and howling in her crate. She is in the kitchen and we have made her crate as comfy as possible with a cloth smelling of her mum and litter mates, a ticking clock, her favourite toy etc. last night I came down 3 times to let her in the garden but she didn't go to the toilet.
I am trying to encourage her to use her crate in the day with the door open but she would rather lie on the tiled floor (or the sofa which she was used to at the breeders house!).
As she is up a lot at night she is then sleeping a lot in the day so I think it's exacerbating the problem - should I be waking her up in the day?
Is it just a case of persevering? I am worried that she will associate the crate with negative feelings.

At 9 weeks she's still a tiny baby and it's a huge upheaval to go from being with her mum and littermates 24/7 to sleeping completely alone in a strange place.

Could you either bring the crate upstairs into your bedroom for a little while or sleep downstairs with her for a bit? You can then gradually move her to where you want her to sleep long term but it's much less stressful for her and you if it's done in stages.

When DH and I got our first puppy we tried to do the puppy equivalent of crying it out with the crate (as per everything we'd read) and it was a disaster. It took a long time to get her over the aversion to crates she developed because we did that

We crate trained our 10 week old lab with great results. You need to stop going to her when she cries. Ours cried for a few hours the first night, it was hard but we ignored her...not a peep from her since. She's now 2 and won't settle for the night until we close her crate door. She's got 2 other beds in the living room which she'll sleep on/in whilst we're in the room but as soon as we get up to go to bed, she'll go to her crate. She's got the run of the downstairs when we're out but quite often we'll come home and she'll be in the crate. Has it got a cover? It not I would recommend getting one so it's nice and dark.

Ours has two memory foam mattresses inside a waterproof cover then a fleecy cover. She also has all her teddies and a couple of old cushions which she burrows into. When she was a pup she had a massive toy dog, a hot water bottle, ticking clock, and 2 old t shirts of with mine and my partners smell on.

Persevere, it's worth it.

We didn't have any issues using the crate but our puppy was fed in the crate from day one, I guess he then associated it with very good things and was happy to go in there for daytime naps and at night.
