Insurance-(possible) first time claim

Poor dpup isn't very well-took her to the vets today and she's being treated for a bug first but possible blockage so back tomorrow and if no change then bloods and X-ray . What do I need to do re claiming? I though I just filled in a form when treatment is complete (and the vet) and send it off but dh is panicking that we should have rung them before we took her and tell them after every appointment what's going on or else they won't pay! Surely this isn't right (btw this isn't coming from something he's read he just thinks that's right) What do you have to do? Our insurance is with more than.

With MoreThan we just pay for it all, fill in our details and the policy number and give it to the vet to do the rest. Vet told us to leave the details of the condition to them as they know how insurance companies can wriggle out of stuff if details are even slightly wrong so that's what we do!

Our insurance paid the vets directly (it wasn't morethan). At the begining of treatment we would ring the insurance company or use their online form to ask for a claim form. When that arrived we would fill our section in and sign it, then give it to the vets for them to fill in and sign. The vets would send it off.

I don't think you have to ring them at the beginning but on the other hand I think I actually have always done so- with pet and house insurance - for my own peace of mind. Would be easy just to give them a .

Just FYI I think with the direct payment it's up the vet not the insurer. As in the insurers don't mind either way but the vets don't always want to wait for the insurance to pay out. We had one vet want payment quickly from us, and another who was happy to wait for the insurers to pay her.

Poor puppy!
Ask your vet whether they will accept payment from the insurance company direct as it is usual for the animal's owner to pay up front and claim back. Your vet will confirm that it is all part of the same treatment, and like a PP our vet sent the forms back once treatment was completed.
Call them though if you're worried - I found them really helpful.

Check your policy...they tell you if you need pre-approval.

Mine needs pre-approval over a certain amount of money (I think it's £1500) but they were fine about not having it in an emergency and don't count individual appointments that add up to that amount as needing it either.

It looks from the claim form on the website that you don't need pre-authorisation - it says forms must be submitted within 30 days. It is always checking with them first though as there'll be things which are excluded. THere's the excess to pay as well. Give them a call at any rate!
