Why does my puppy do this?

My puppy is 14 weeks old and doing really well with toilet training, we still have the odd accident but on the whole she's pretty good. We don't let her go upstairs but sometimes if the door is left open by accident she will sneak upstairs and do a poo or wee in one of the bedrooms. Why does she do this? It's like she does it on purpose, as soon as the opportunity arises she's off and in the space of seconds will have done a poo in the kids or my room or a wee. Is it because she knows she's not allowed up there and she is somehow marking her territory? I really don't think its a coincidence that she does this because she's so good normally (unless its raining or we haven't got to her in time to let her out!)

The likely explanation is that because she is not allowed up there, she simply does not see see it as part of the space that she should not soil. She is very young and hasn't generalised her toilet training to include all indoor spaces. She only understands not to soil in her regular living spaces. When introducing a pup to new areas of a house or a new building, they often need supervising and guiding to go outside.

Ok, that makes sense! I don't really want her to go upstairs at all but if the door is accidentally left open she makes a dash for it! Once she's older will she automatically know she's indoors and not do her business there?

Depends a bit on the dog. My girl got it quickly. My boy had to be watched like a hawk in all new places until he was about a year old.

My 6mo pup wees on the beds

He runs up there as fast as he can, leaps on the bed and does a wee immediately. Not accidental I don't think !

Yes! That's just like my pup, she runs upstairs as quickly as she can and does a wee/poo before we can get to her! Mmm, it is like she does it just to spite me...as if she's saying ha ha I'm not allowed up here so I'm going to do a poo in your bedroom!!

I like to think she'll grow out of it...
