One of my dogs has an anal abscess. He's 3 next week and its his first one. Took him to the vet yesterday so he is on day two of antibiotics, it opened up over night which the vet said was a good thing as she wasnt able to drain. He's due to go into kennels tomorrow as we are going away for two nights for my sisters wedding. He likes the kennels and staff and the kennels are fine with taking him and will give him his meds but he is prone to picking up bugs in the kennels so i'm worried about leaving him when hes ill already.

Ive looked online and the hotel we are staying in is dog friendly and near the reception venue. Should i take him with us? He'd be shut up there most of the day alone without my other dog though. We could drop back every few hours. Theres no way I can take the other dog as she barks at any little noise.

The drain is getting bigger and i dont know if thats normal. Swelling has gone down.

Wwyd??? Advice quick please!

Any chance of dogsitter coming to your home? Animal Aunts or other agency? Obviously short notice but may work. Any friendly vet nurses at your surgery who could come to your house and care for him? Good luck, big worry. x

I'd go to the wedding alone and leave whoever the 'we' is in your OP at home with the dog .

If he's on ab's they should prevent him picking up an infection - irs only 2 nights if the kennels are okay with it just go and have a nice time Smile

Sister v Dog.....Hmmm. I know I would be fairly upset as your sister if your dog's illness meant that you were constantly leaving my wedding. If the kennels will take him, then proceed with your plans.

We've decided to take him with us. Then he'll be alone for say 2hrs for ceremony, then we can go back and check on him. In between that and reception. Our hotel is next door to the reception venue. So we can visit again during afternoon and evening to take him out for a walk. OH not drinking so I think he may slop off early and baby sit.
