My cavalier King Charles spaniel is carrying extra weight, she is at the top end of her breeds average weight but not tall to justify it. I have cut her food down to 2 smaller meals, she did have almost constant food and also helped herself to my other dogs food, they now get fed separately. My worry is that she seems constantly hungry now, are dogs like humans and need to get used to eating less or am I under feeding her now?

It will take her some time to get used to eating less and not having constant access to food. It's being cruel to be kind though. It's much better for her health to get the weight off. Have you looked at a chart showing what a healthy weight looks like? I find them more helpful that breed weight ranges.

Yes I have seen a healthy dog shape and to my eyes she isn't awfully big but I know and the vet said she does have a bit extra, I will be speaking to vet about it too as only decided after leaving vets to get it sorted. She still has energy when we go out has a run around although she has never really been an overly active dog when out, does most running when catching up to my Yorkie who has boundless energy!
