Hi pivot , i have 2 pups at the moment & I also use crates ( used for every dog we've had )
One is happy to laze until we get up but one thinks he's a cockerel and likes to be up with sun !!
I started to cover his crate with an old dark cover & I put a dark towel over the front when he goes in at night and he sleeps much later ( I'm up before him at term time smile)
Hope it works for you !
I can't see any pics at the moment as I'm on my phone but I'll check in later .x

At that age our pup thought 6am was time to get up. It gradually got better and now 8am is the latest wake up time. Sorry, it doesn't get better here mainly because 7.30 is weekday walkies.
