Out and about today, we came across a very pretty dog, but I dont know what it was.

She was a small breed. A very gorgeous tan colour. Coat was short on the back, but becoming longer on her belly and legs. Ears were long and floppy. I assumed she was a spaniel, but my googling doesn't seem to bring up anything.

I would guess that she was a little bigger than a cavalier king charles and had a longer muzzle. She was fully grown.

Sorry it is so vague, but I know its going to bug me. Grin

Not a cocker in show clip?

Dotty Possibly.

Spicy Googled cocker spaniel and they look bigger and curlier than this one. However, I did come across this picture and it is the spit of the very pretty dog I saw earlier

Can I ask one too. I sometimes see a dog at the local farmers' market and it is lovely but no idea what it is. It's medium sized, quite shaggy, golden and just beautiful. It's some sort of mix. Like a cockapoo but bigger and prettier.

Show type cockers aren't very big. 38-39 cms tall for a breed standard bitch.

Show cockers and working cockers look different. Also if their hair is clipped short or left long makes a massive difference. My show cockers haiur is really curly but my friends dog asho is a show/wodkingy cross is dead straight.

Showy, could it be a toller?

Sorry for stupid typos, I meant show/working cross

Both pictures are cocker Spaniels. Their fur naturally grows very long and curly but owners get it clipped at different lengths. I had one and they are wonderful dogs.

I've googled toller and no. Sturdier, shaggier and all one colour. Not so sleek

Showy - it does sound like a Toller - but do you mean Tollers are shaggier or sleeker than the dog you see?

Noooo. Nothing like that. Shorter, thicker hair like a teddy bear and the same all over. No mix of curly and straight. And pretty.

DottyDooRidesAgain · 08/07/2014 21:25

It could just be a mixed breed. Confused

Labradoodle?

Report
Showy · 08/07/2014 21:27

Nowt like a toller. A toller is thinner, sleeker and nowhere near the shaggy teddy bear dog I've seen. Its (dog I've seen) coat is thicker. Like the coat on a cockapoo but bigger dog than a cockapoo.

Not a labradoodle no but not dissimilar.

It's not just a random mix. I'm sure. Seen the breed before in things like Country Life or on Crufts. It's definitely A Something.

My friend a Springer/poodle cross?
All these x breeds can be very different, even from the same litter

My thought was Toller too (maybe because you used the words pretty and beautiful!) Wink

Showy sounds like a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier.
