Suggestions for a getaway with dogs

Posting here for dog-friendly traffic!

My DH is about to return from a long stint working abroad. It's been a long hard 4 months and I am exhausted.

I just want to escape for a few days by myself once he's home to take up the reins. I want to take off with my 2 dogs and stay somewhere lovely where we can go for long beautiful walks and then while they sleep it off I can curl up and tackle my neglected pile of books. A nice evening meal on site would be a bonus.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm in the Home Counties so don't want to drive too far but would love Cotswolds/New Forest/South Wales/Dorset/Kent etc

Would love to hear if anyone has stayed somewhere really special - and dog friendly.

TIA Grin

Ooh sounds absolutely fab. You don't mention budget. There are some lovely high end hotels in the right area that will take dogs and have great dining options on site, but they can be a bit ridiculously pricey.

If money's no object I'd be looking at Cliveden Grin

We've always struggled a bit to find mid-range dog friendly accommodation but had a good stay at the Red Lion, Cricklade to do some of the Thames Path.

Thanks for those - Scamper holidays says 'small friendly dogs' - unfortunately mine are lab mixes so not really very small. But I might give them a call anyway, see how rigid the rules are. Love those shepherd's huts!

Cliveden would be fab - have been there on a company do - not sure DH would be too impressed and me and the 'damn dogs' schlepping off there Grin Perhaps something a LITTLE more low-budget.

We stayed here (without the dogs as it happens but they are very welcoming of dogs; explains the policy on the 'bedrooms' page - basically dogs welcome everywhere, including the restaurant).

The room was fine - I found the bathrooms a wee bit disappointing (it was fine, and clean, but tired). But not spa luxury, but I guess with two dogs that's not the 'something special' you are after anyway! The food was incredible - fantastic, couldn't fault it, ditto the staff. Loads of great walks on the doorstep, a lovely part of the world.

Good reviews on tripadvisor too!
