Raw food suppliers?

Thanks to some lovely support from people on here a few months ago, I switched pizpup onto a raw food diet.

He's done really well on it but we recently moved to a small town where it's now harder to pick up chicken wings, liver etc and I'm considering ordering from a raw food supplier who'll deliver. I have great freezer space (finally) but as he's only 5kg I don't want to order too much in one go - does anyone have any recommendations?

We use nutriment complete and I couldn't recommend it highly enough. Delivery is spot on , very well packaged and a very good price.

I had an order from Nature's Menu recently and was impressed, delivery arrangements were good and it was well packaged, all totally frozen on receipt. Their bags of complete nuggets would be ideal for a small dog I should think, you can tumble out as many or as few as you need and they defrost quickly. Their tins are also the only 'convenience' food my dogs can tolerate!

Nurturing by Nature is good, but they only deliver in the south I think...

Nutriment look great, will definitely give them a try. Can't see any bones on their website though? He does love a good gnaw! Will check out nature's menu and nurturing by nature too (we are south west)

There's a bones and treats section Tbh I get my bones in Morrisons though as cheap and good selection. I always give them a ring and order over phone...they are always good for a chat and will tell you if they havr anything a bit different in stock that isn't online.

Thanks fan - just found it...He'll love lamb ribs! Tabulahrasa, thanks for that list, it's great but there's too much choice for me - bit overwhelming! Looks like some great recommendations on here so will check them out - thanks again!

It is huge, lol... I've used Durham animal feeds before if that helps, lots of variety of body parts, all delivered frozen, I think there is a minimum order amount though and you have to wait until they're delivering in your area.

Very cheap for things like pigs and cows legs, chicken carcasses were cheaper at the butchers, they do have tripe though and minces if you want them.

I feed my two boys a selection from natural instinct, nutriment and natures menu. Natures menu nuggets are very convenient as it defrosts in a few hours. However, they are not always keen on them. They can be a bit sloppy and doesn't look as meaty as the other brands. I also prepare my own food for them which they love above others. But be careful, they can become fussy eaters. Mine sometimes turn their noses on food thinking a nice home made with meaty bones are coming.

I just have to say this is what you're getting. They will eat if they are hungry enough! Dogs like children can get spoilt.

I use Honeys. They are not the cheapest but their welfare standards for the meat they supply and their customer service are excellent. I use the prepared complete food but the supply for DIY as well.

Tabulahrasa, thanks! Sadly our lovely local butcher s just closed down (and I was so excited to move to a town with a butcher's!) So will take a look at Durham.

JKramer you are spot on about the fussiness - he'll skip dinner entirely if it's not to his fancy and i'll usually cave after 24 hours hunger strike and give him something else - I ended up switching to raw in the first place because he wouldn't touch any other types of food and was too thin!

Spicypear, welfare standards are important to me - I have been feeling bad buying free range chicken for the family and value wings for the dog - doesn't matter who consumes them, the chickens suffer the same! Will definitely take a look at Honeys.

Mine can be lazy and prefers mince but I am tough and he caves before I do...2 and 1/2 days has been my longest stand off with same bone going in and out of fridge!

If you're on FB, join Raw Feeding UK group. They have loads of files you can access, including one on suppliers all over UK. Lots of interesting chat about raw feeding as well.

Nutriment starter pack arrived today and the chicken pack was wolfed in seconds then the bowl was licked! Very rare occurrence for this picky little dog. Will try him out on the different flavours over the next coupe of weeks. Thanks again for the recommendation!

We got our Nutriment order today. Dh walked into me bagging up and dog on floor with a duck neck and wandered off muttering about why couldn't we be be bloody normal and live like normal people

But eating kibbles would not be normal. It's like telling someone to eat space food in a capsule instead of what we eat normally. Mine two love duck necks. I have to seperate those two when I give them someone really nice or new. One is a greedy bugger and the other takes his time to eat.

I like the idea of giving your dog's someone nice for dinner jkramer! Brilliant.

He's tried the beef now - gone in seconds and he then follows me round the house making eyes at me for more. So pleased I posted and thanks again for the recommendations!

Can I just ask a question , if you only use half the pack does the other half smell ,assuming it can sit in the fridge for the next day ? Also how much space does a 'starter pack' take up in the freezer ?

Store in freezer until you need to defrost it. Keep leftovers in fridge is fine for max 4 days. Nutriment and natural instincts do 500g tubs. How much you need depends on the weight of your dog. The recommended daily amount is 2 to 3% of the dogs body weight but if he's active then feed more. It's higher for puppies. I have two dogs so they go through 1kg tub easily in a day. If you have a local stockist that really helps. If not I know natural instinct does next day delivery.

The nutriment stuff comes in resealable boxes, like Tupperware, about the size of plastic takeaway boxes. I've been a bit lazy with the first one and chucked it in the fridge and seems fine - bit stinky as it comes out of the box but it's eaten in seconds. Pizpup is only 5kg so it's lasting him 4 days a box!

We have a chest freezer so space not really an issue but think the starter pack would have taken up a couple of drawers in our old upright - there were several boxes

Hope that's some use!
