If you could design a breed, what would it look like?

I saw husky pup during the weekend in a pet shop.
He was with his owner.
Only 10 weeks old.... very very cute.
Lovely grey fur and bright piercing blue eyes.

If they could be a miniature husky, that would be what I would want.

There is...The Alaskan Klee Klai

I think mine is perfect - long legs with short hair for easy cleaning, and strawberry blond with highlights and windswept styling on top to add that 'difference'.

my crossbreed mystery dog is fab. If she was an actual breed I would choose that every timegrin
She has a jrt size body on long legs and is a black wiry terrier type thing with probably some Patterdale in there. Massive personality.

It would look like my dog.

Honestly purely by accident we obtained the perfect family dog, friendly, gentle-natured, affectionate, non-chewing, rarely barks, obedient with the minimum of training.

OK he might be a slightly odd-looking dog - think black labrador body with staffie brindling and one white streak on chest, wide staffie head like a little black bear and a diagonal collie run, but if I could clone him I reckon I'd make a fortune! grin

A mini lab!!

I Love my lab's but some times when they knock me over or pile on me on the sofa I wish they were a teeny bit smaller!!

I think Merle collies/Aussies are stunning but lately I've been yearning for something smaller and more portable that fits happily on a lap.

So a miniature Merle Aussie with a slightly less dense coat would be perfect.

(I know there are meant to be miniature Aussies but as far as I know they're just badly bred undersized ones, rather than a proper size variation a la Mini/Standard Poodles etc)

The Alaskan Klee Kai ... awww so cute.

mistlethrush Tue 11-Mar-14 13:10:08

CalamityKate - I have an answer to your problem that is lap sized... here (not this one particularly but a similar colour / breeding... they curl up small!

you can't improve on perfection!

I'm rather taken with the silken windhound, they look like a small borzoi, very pretty IMO.

Mistle - I used to have a Lurcher! A large, lolloping one - although he loved to try to be a lap dog smile

Looks-wise he wasn't my ideal though. I had no idea what he was when I bought him and neither did the pet shop. Some travellers had gone into the shop with a boxful of puppies and basically said "If you don't take these they go in a bucket of water" sad

A small merle one would fit in a lap more easily than a big lolloping one... I do love my lurcher.

CalamityKate Tue 11-Mar-14 20:30:52

I loved mine too smile

He had such a beautiful nature, was a total clown but very clever. I wish I'd known about clicker training when I had him; as it was he was very trainable and we did quite well at obedience smile

It would look exactly like my youngest dog but in miniature. He thinks he's a lap dog. He is not. It would also put way more stuff out of his reach.

barleysugar Wed 12-Mar-14 11:08:46

I'd love the sweet nature of a retriever but the size of a dachshund, but l

barleysugar Wed 12-Mar-14 11:10:15

Longer legged than a dacchie!

mistlethrush Wed 12-Mar-14 11:59:30

You need a whippet / Daschund lurcher, clearly, Barleysugar!

LadyTurmoil Wed 12-Mar-14 18:17:38

Then you need Pickle!

Cakeismymaster Wed 12-Mar-14 19:49:29

lady that dog is super cute!

LadyTurmoil Wed 12-Mar-14 20:17:29

I don't think she'll be in rescue for long - makes you wonder why someone gave her up. She sounds perfect "Pickle is a 9 month old female Golden Labrador crossed with a much shorter, longer breed. She is what we call a "low rider". She is absolutely GORGEOUS! A mini Lab!
She is quiet, very sweet, and likes cuddles. Pickle is good with other dogs, is in foster with cats and children 6+. She has been spayed, started her vaccinations, been microchipped, wormed and deflead." She's at Pups needing homes and they have some gorgeous terrier cross pups too

permaquandry Mon 17-Mar-14 22:30:43

Oh lady....pickle is too lovely for words. She looks like she's been drawn! And Jefferson, he just looks so full of character. I want another dog now I can't have another dog but this thread is full of lovelies.

CalamityKate, mini Aussies are now officially recognized by the American Kennel Club so they definitely do exist!

OP, they've "invented" the Pomsky a Pomeranian/Husky cross. My kids want one but it's a big fat no from me.

CalamityKate Wed 19-Mar-14 18:59:54

Zee - yes I had a peek following my last post on here and I see they're recognised by the AKC. They really are beautiful.
