The doghouse

She's such a jealous dog..

How do I best handle it?

I met up with quite a lot of other dog walkers up at the park, and they all have Gorgeous dogs that I love to say hello to. Previously Jess would just come running to me if she saw me pet another dog, and shove her own nose into my hand or try to body push the other dog out the way.

Now she's started actually barking and growling at the other dog and trying to chase them away.

Any ideas? I don't want to stop saying hello to my friends dogs, just because mine has become so possessive.

Thanks!

Hmm. Maybe treat her when you see the other dogs? And after you've made a quick fuss of them? I'm no expert, though, just an idea.

Thanks Snakey - a quick click and treat Before she starts giving them hassle?

My only concern is she'll just come speeding back to me even quicker than she does now when she sees me give another dog attention!

No one else has this problem?? (still have John Lennon song on the brain, "I'm just a jealous guy.."!

Hmmm. I'm no expert either but I think I'd try calling her back BEFORE you pet another dog and putting her on lead. Arm your friend with some exceptionally tasty treats and a clicker to reward her, leave her with the friend and then go and make a fuss of the other dog. If she accepts it without a fuss she gets handsomely rewarded, if not she gets nothing. Perhaps move her further away if she is too near and getting worked up.

No personal experience though, I got accosted this morning by a lab for the liver cake in my pocket. DDog just watched, wagging her tail Grin

450g liver
450g sr flour
3 eggs
2 cloves garlic(optional)
Water or milk to mix with

Optional extras if feeling generous or dog bored!......tin sardines, lump of sausagemeat, tuna.....prob a load of others but my gannet NEVER gets bored so haven't tried any others Grin

Blend liver inc juices in liquidiser. Add everything else and blend, adding enough water/milk to make it same consistency as a normal sponge mix. Bake for 35 mins at about 180 degrees in a lightly oiled tin. Slice and bung in freezer......use Tupperware type box though as it stinks!!
