Dogs that don't malt so much.

DP and I are looking for a dog. I am a bit clueless and really would like to know which breeds of dogs don't malt so much?

It would need to be small to medium in size.

Do you mean moult? Our staffy is short haired and doesn't moult and neither does a friends beddlington terrier, the can be both small to medium dogs.

Poodles don't moult, I have a Labradoodle who does not moult (and is a very lovely dog, currently snoozing on the couch) but they are not all non-shedding.

our childhood pet was a miniature poodle. didn't moult/shed , didn't need much walking and let me dress her up on doll clothes and push her around in a pushchair. She was brilliant.

Some Labradoodles do moult, they can moult just as much as a Labrador or as little as a poodle, bit risky if you definitely want a non moulting dog.

We have a Miniature Poodle (the medium size not toy size) they are fab dogs and don't moult look great if you get them cut all the same length (I ask them to do a more terrier style cut)
Bision Frise, Yorkshire Terrier, Bedllington Terrier, Lhasa Apso are all popular non moulting dogs
Are you looking for a smaller dog because of walking restrictions? If so poodles require a lot of walking, my friend has Lhasa Apsos and says they are more placid and need shorter walks

Looking for a smaller dog due to the fact that we don't have the biggest of houses. We do have a garden but I don't think it would be fair for a larger dog to live here. Walking would not be an issue.

Our labradoodle moults like a bloody moulty thing.

Schnauzers don't moult.

We have a F1b cockapoo (bred back to the poodle) and he doesn't moult. However, he's the only one in his litter of five that doesn't. He's very 'poodle' looking and is often mistaken for a miniature poodle. My friend has a bichon, and they don't moult either. It's worth noting, though, that a non-shedding dog will cost you more in terms of grooming.

I have a shih tzu and he's non moulting, we all wear suits for work and it would be a nightmare if we had to worry about hairs all the time. Shihtzu are small dogs, mines placid, hardly barks, loves walks whether short or long, loves people and other canines. Grooming is expensive , say around £30 a time and he needs combing every two to three days to avoid matting.

There are some terriers that only minimally moult like Norfolk, Norwich and Cairn. The small fluffy breeds Bichon Frisée, Lasa Apso, Shih Tzu and Lowchen also don't moult.
But my number one all time favourite the poodle can't rate thm highly enough jut remember underneath that fluffy exterior they are originally water dogs.

We have a miniature poodle who doesn't moult at all. He's very laid back, loves being fussed and loves the kids. He's nearly 7 and has grown up with my two DC who are now 15 and 13. He loves going for walks but doesn't like going out in the rain!! Can recommend a breeder if you are persuaded!!

We also have a min poodle definitely non shedding its the first non shedding dog we've ever had and I'm a compete convert. They are ridiculous, funny, permanently cheerful, non barking, bright but easy to train, very loving and apparently one the healthiest and longest living breed of dog 18 is common. They love a walk mine is currently in two minds about water but doesn't care about rain or mud and they do love human company. But all poodles need to go to the groomer every 6-8 weeks or you can learn to do it yourself frankly I don't have the time or inclination.
Jackie Kitchener from the minutiae poodle club/society/organisation (can't remember which) is the person to speak to she knows all reputable breeders with litters or litters due. Expect a bit of a grilling many people are buying poodles to breed labradoodles cockerpoos jackapoos and God knows what else to sell at a ridiculous price to try and make a fast buck. This obviously is not going down well with dedicated reputable poodle breeders.
