HELP! Nails break through poo bag. Poop scoop recommendations please

Help much appreciated

My nails keep splitting the dog poo bags

I think I need some kind of contraption to scoop it up, but there are quite a few on the market.
I have a gsd pup so will need one suited for large dogs.

Sorry no recommendations about bags etc, but I have had this problem too. I would experiment with different foods to find one that produces more solid poos as its so much easier to pick up a solid poo rather than trying to scoop up runny mess which I find almost always leads to a hole poked in the bag.

I use carrier bags, I've never put my nails through and my nails are pretty long.

I use nappy sacks. I find they are pretty good, haven't put my nails through them. another plus point is their generous size for (ahem) geberous dollops!

Good grief. I suspect changing to a stronger type of bag or using rubber gloves may have been more cost effective and of course more portable. You're not going to take that contraption out on walks are you?!

You'll probably still need something for out and about though. Just something basic like this should do the trick.

I don't think I will be able to take it on walks

I shall take dh on walks with us (and one of those ones in moosemamas link when he's at work!).

I was using doubled up nappy bags. I don't get many carrier bags (I use reusable and I think shops charge for them now).

It will be about 9 days until I can take pup out for a walk so will have time to buy a portable one.

I'm quite looking forward to it coming tomorrow now!

Only some shops charge for them...and I am reusing them, lol. I do have some purpose made bags somewhere that I got at training classes, but it galls me to use them when I can use asda ones.

I will have a look at changing food to get a more solid result. I have been keeping him on bakers chicken because that's what he was on to start with. I'm pretty sure it's not the best food tbh, but I have to be careful because gsds tend to have sensitive stomachs.

lol, no I don't hate the environment, I recycle and everything.

I just don't see the point of specially made bags when there are already bags that I can reuse to do it - and I forget to take enough bags with me when I go shopping, so I've always got too many of them.

Bakers is not a good food btw, it's got some pretty horrendous additives in it apart from being grain heavy and having added sugar. It's the one food I would absolutely always recommend changing from.

Other ones while I might not choose them if a dog is doing fine on then fair enough, but Bakers is pretty awful.

I've been googling all day and am as ever!
I believe that for the food to be any good, it has to have the meat listed as the first ingredient, but that's all I have concluded from my 'investigation'.

I'm thinking a fish based one might be kinder to his stomach...

I use skinners field and trial for my dog. It's not the best food on the market but for its price its ingredients are okay (I use the duck one but they do salmon too)I think they do a puppy version too.

I use a sheet (or half a sheet) of kitchen roll with the poop bag. So lay the kitchen roll over the poo, then scoop paper AND poo with the bag.

My GSD is on Superdog Sensitive. Does lovely nice hard poos

He used to be on a different food, and had sloppy poos, ended up with a problem with his anal gland getting blocked up. Vet used to have to 'empty' the gland regularly and he was constantly licking his arse

Since changing his food, his little hard poo bullets have sorted his gland out nicely, and it's much easier to pick up - everyone's a winner!

I also use nappy bags, but use several per poo because my hand isn't big enough to pick it all up in one..... TMI...?

I feel your pain :-) as a lady with long nails and three dogs.

Ive just aquired a contraption called a dooup, and it works really well ,have a look on line they have a website. It picks up and bags the poop and squirts the area with a bit of sanitizer so great if you have kids as well as dogs
