We have promised the kids a puppy for ages. Dh and I both grew up with dogs but we wanted to wait til dd2 was a bit older. She's very nearly 5 now and we moved country a month ago with the promo of "when we move and have a garden, we can get a dog". After a huge amount of research into breeds, we are looking for a spinone. I contacted a breeder yesterday, expecting to be out on a list for a puppy sometime next year (purposely chose a small breeder expecting a long wait)....

Anyway it turns out she has the most gorgeous 7 week old puppies and one of them is available - eek! Her new owner backed out for very valid reasons and she needs a new family. Haven't told the kids yet, dh is trying to work out how to get there to look at the puppies and I'm going to call the lady later for a chat.

Very exciting, been ages since I had a puppy, mentally making lists of questions to ask..... Any tips from spinone owners welcome!

Who is it? PM me if you like but I want to be sure it is a good breeder. I can tell you yes or no.

Be prepared for drooling but they are gorgeous. My mum used to breed and show them. Great family pets.

Omg. After ages of waiting for a spinone, we went to a shopping mall today and saw a stand advertising a local dog shelter. Dh suggested a drive there after lunch and we all fell for the saddest most nervous most gorgeous 10 week old Dalmatian x Labrador puppy. She's white with black spots and a black ear. We said we would never take home a dog without sleeping on it but we couldn't leave her there another day. She's now dozing on the living room rug while dh is shopping up a storm in petco...... Totally different personality to a spinone I know but sometimes dogs just choose owners.....

Crutchlo the spinone breeder is dry grass spinone in Colorado Springs. We're in the us and there are registered with the American spinone club.

I guess a spinone will have to wait a few years.......

She's now called Luna (the shelter had named her Aden) and her photo is on my profile. She's already claimed the sofa (forgot what it's like to be owned by a dog) and we have a crate that she's wary of having been in a run at the dogs home but she likes the treats that are already inside so she'll get there. She seems pretty smart and is increasingly happy, playing and running round the house with the kids. The kids love her already and she slept downstairs last night in her bed without a peep. Dh and I barely slept as we were listening out for her!

Tomorrow is a public holiday but ill take her to the vet on Tuesday for a check up and chat about her remaining jabs.
