which clippers are best for a cockapoo?

We want to save some money and clip our cockapoo ourselves. Her hair is curly and pretty thick and dense so we need something for that sort of coat.

Which are best?

You will need professional clippers for thick coat like this. Forget Argos, you're better with Andis or Oster about £125 inc #10 blade (too short for normal use) you'll need another blade likely an F5 or F7 about £30. This set up will last you the life of the dog, blades need resharpened maybe once a year (for just doing one dog). You will need scissors, brush and comb. Have a look here www.christiesdirect.com/

I got a set from Argos for £50, so not dirt cheap. My dog is a shihtzu so very dense cost, the clippers work fine. I do get him professionally groomed as well, so these are used to keep him short and neat between being groomed. I'm very happy with them for the price and they receive good reviews.

We got a WAHL set from Amazon. It's blue and yellow and cost around £30.

We've only used it once so far as our Cockapoo is still just a pup, but we were really impressed with the results. He looks better than some other dogs do from the groomers, so we're happy!

I went through a period where I liked Ancol, but have come back full circle Osters really are the best clippers on the market. But you do need to get your blades regularly shrapened.
I have to say I was really disappointed with WAHL and would never buy them again.
Look at it this way your Cockapoo will need clipping about 6 times a year at £30 to 35 per time investing in a £150 pair of clippers that will last beyond the life of the dog is worth it.
I own three pairs of Osters ages are 30 years, 25 years and 20 years old.

Hey cleo, they are Wahl ones, they are £50. Some are cheaper, but these had good reviews.

Thanks guys. This might be a silly question but how do you sharpen them?

The blades should be detachable and there are various sharpening services.

Just look up clipper blade sharpening on t'interwebby, (horse people need blades sharpening all the time !).
A good website for clippers is "Peasridge".

But personally I think my groomer earns her money Wink

I've used www.sheareaseltd.com/ for past 15 years without a spot of trouble, free postage too.

Cheaper clippers may work for a year or two, blades won't be as good quality and neither will last the life of the dog.

Buy cheap buy twice. If you decide clipping your own dog is not for you the second hand value of decent clippers will hold extremely well, you'll get almost what you paid for them.
