The doghouse

Is anyone else's dog driving them insane in this heat??

I know she's hot and bothered, I'm hot and bothered, but she's just laying there panting, staring at me. Then she moves to another spot, pants and stares at me! I've got all the windows open, fans pointing at floor level, ice cubes in her water bowl, a cool, damp towel on the kitchen floor for her to lay on, and we've been for a walk round the lake where she's had a swim. I don't know what else I can do, but the staring is driving me mad!!!

Please tell me it's not just my mutt?!

Don't know if it's the heat, but mine has suddenly become very barky and is driving me nuts.

She definitely doesn't seem too keen on doing very much and is sleeping more at the moment as well, but that could also be boredom as we're not going out until the evening when it's cooled down a bit.

Went out at just after 5 this evening; big mistake it was still very hot and I ended up carrying a very miserable, hot dog home; thankfully she's small.

My house is pretty cool so I am able to play games with her in the house a bit, which gets us through some of the day, but it's not the same as her nice long walks.

I'm not very keen on the heat myself, so I think we're both a bit bored and fed up.

It won't last too much longer surely, and then hopefully all these overheated mutts will be back out there enjoying the normal english 'summer' weather.

Don't know what you can do about the staring tbh. Probably thinks it's all your fault it's so hot and is wondering why the hell you're not doing something to put it right, apart that is from the ice cubes and the fans and cooling towels:).

I woke this morning, to a mournful face, 2 inches away from mine, staring at me! She never comes in the bedroom, but obviously decided it was all too much this morning and she needed to wake me up by power of the stare, to let me know how miserable she is!! Actually quite glad I'm out at work for a bit today, as she's making me feel guilty! Lol

Lol my dog is doing this too, he is panting soooo much and just not stopping looking at me. It makes me feel so guilty, like I can control the weather or something in his mind Grin! Also the panting noise has started to irritate me lol, I am loving having a summer but I'll be glad when it's a bit cooler for the pets Smile

Mine are just sleeping, moving from one floor tile to another to keep cool :o

But now that you mention it, ddog1 is more barky than usual and that's probably because she's feeling a bit hot and bothered, and not getting her usual walks at the usual times.

Well my boy was suffering in this heat with his thick fairly long coat, so today took him to groomer for wash & very short clip all over......

He now resembles a large gold and white rat, with ridiculously large ears & feet!!

He may be cooler, but he keeps hiding behind the sofa - on the few occasions he has come out he gives me a very mournful stare!

There's no pleasing some people (dogs) Smile

Mine isn't - he has spent quite a bit of the day outside with a bone or just alternating sunbathing, retreating to the shade under the table and lapping out of the barrel pond. At the moment he's lying on his back in his office basket, paws in the air - his tummy isn't very hairy so its probably cooler that way. He's a short-haired dachshund so he's not heavily furred anyway.

We've been able to choose some shady walks under trees this week which helps - in full sun he tends to flop down in every patch of shade we pass.

The neighbourhood dogs though have been driving me mad - much more barking than usual. There's one terrier who's usually a bit barky but he's been yap yap yap all day.

Get a paddling pool. My dog loves it especially after a walk.

Or giant breed dog is very hot and bothered with it all. Pants constantly and spends much of the day unsettled.

Sadly I haven't got a garden so can't get her a paddling pool :( she was clipped about 4 weeks ago so she's not as hairy as she was. She just looks so bloody miserable! She's currently velcroed to my leg, making us both hotter than ever, panting her head off and staring at me. If I send her away, she just looks even sadder. Hate this weather!

Mine is like a cat, just lies there. Opens her eyes sometimes when I move, which isn't much these last few days, to see if we are going out.

We,ve been taking the dogs for a swim in the evenings. Also have a paddling pool in the garden for them. When walking your dog make sure you take some water for them

I cut down the panting by feeding dusty dog ice cubes. The tail goes wild in anticipation.

I'm going to try that this afternoon, iseenodust.
