My very unapproachable neighbour has 2 dogs. 1 is no issue we barely know its there but the 2nd is very loud and jumps up at fence if we dare to go in our garden.

Have learned to live with the constant barking but today has pushed me over the edge. The neighbour puts the dog out in the back garden if they go out as I hear it has wrecked their house. Today it jumped their fence and my 6 year old ds was at the front of our house waving off his grandparents. It seen my ds and ran at him, my ds took fright and ran with the dog chasing him up the street (ds is 6). My mum seen what was happening and jumped out the car as she did not know if the dog was trying to attack him. It then started barking and jumping at her. Dh ran out and by this point the dog ran off.

Another neighbour told me a while back that she has regularly found their dog in the street and has brought it back to them.

Really not sure what to do but I am bloody sick of it all. It's not the animals fault I know but 2 years of constant barking and now a terrified child I'm so annoyed.

The neighbour is not the nicest of people - any advice on what I can do if anything? Just don't feel a dog should be allowed to be left somewhere they know it can escape from especially when there are young children living so close. Any ideas?

You have my sympathy.
My neighbours dog behaves this way. Unfortunately, this behaviour was deemed 'normal'.
The fact is, they do not have the social skills to work out what is acceptable behaviour. They dont care how much their dog affects other people.
Their dog is behaving as dogs do - as far they are concerned.

My neighbours dog barks all the time because he is so bored and frustrated with not being walked. I have only lived our new house for 6 weeks but I am toying with the idea of offering to walk him myself so he shuts up and I also feel sorry for him, the owner seems thick but ok however I am reluctant to take this responsibility and obligate myself as I have other commitments.

Well the dog ended up back here this morning after spending a night at the police station having been found roaming the streets.

I saw the neighbours daughter getting him out the car so I had a word and told her what happened and that her dog was almost hit by a car. She seemed apologetic and i mentioned they may want to get a higher gate as the dog can jump it easily. Glad it was her I spoke to and not her father!!! Anyway sorted for now and ds seems no worse for his scary experience.

Thanks for the advice if it happens again I will be going to the dog warden!
