Oh good god. I'm being condescended at by a Labrador.

pigsDOfly Tue 18-Jun-13 20:22:50

My dog does this to my daughter's dog (same mum and dad, different litters, my dog is younger).

She puts her paw on the other dog's head and sort of pats at her. It doesn't look like a request to play as she tends to do it when they're fairly calm. I've never seen her do it with another dog.

It looks almost as if she's giving the other dog a 'priestly' blessing and looks a wee bit patronising, which I suppose a pat on the head is really.

Think maybe you need to think about how your dog views your position in the family HoneyDragonsmile.

Good girl, Honey, good girl!

Did she not give you a treat as well?!

wriggletto Mon 17-Jun-13 16:11:56

Mine don't do 'stroke me, stroke me'. They do [headbutt] STROKE ME NOW FOOD LADY.

HoneyDragon Mon 17-Jun-13 14:16:42

Yes, it was her expression that did it, very intense. And it wasn't a stroke me, stroke me thing like they do to your arm. It was a definite, pat, pat, pat.

Who knows but how cute!!!

wriggletto Mon 17-Jun-13 10:34:08

My dog sometimes puts his paw on me too, and pats me with a very serious expression. I wonder if it's their interpretation of the stroking we do to them? They sense that touching can be a sign of our affection, but they can't really stroke so patting's the nearest thing?

I wonder what I did right? confused

I'm now starting to get how she feels....

AdoraBell Mon 17-Jun-13 04:04:15

HoneyDragon Sun 16-Jun-13 22:39:27

She's a lab. She was sleep next to me on the sofa, hence she could reach.

I would LOVE to know why she just did that. The weirdo.

PseudoBadger Sun 16-Jun-13 22:32:34

How tall is your dog?!

HoneyDragon Sun 16-Jun-13 22:27:22

The dog has just woke up, stood up, stretched.

Lifted her paw and patted me on the head. Three times in quick succession. confused

Then lay back down again and resumed snoring.
