When does it get easier?(9 Posts)
Each puppy is different so I wouldn't worry too much. I had a 5 week old pup who perhaps had a couple of wees in the house but otherwise he was house trained really quickly. My sheltie was 9 weeks old and a little more tricky - you would think it would have been the other way round! And my collie was 5 months and took us about 5 months to house train her as she had been living wild.
Hi everyone, only just had the chance to get back on here! My lovely little puppy is fine today! No accidents. I have only stopped going out with him for the past week because i found that when i went out with him he would just try and play with me ..then i found out that when i went inside and watched him through the window he would just do his business straight away.. I think he did have a bit of an upset tummy too because his poos were a bit sloppy, today they are back to normal! I think I was just having a bad day! He still has to be constantly supervised though...is it normal for him not to be housebroken at 15 weeks? keep reading things about their puppy only taking 2-3 weeks!
It does get easier but exactly the same with babies it does not get progressively easier. There will be regressions and sometimes they are the most difficult to deal with because they can make you feel really disheartened.
The bad weather was most likely the problem today. Many dogs don't want to go out if it's wet. Also do you expect him to go out alone? You may well have to go out with him and wait (very patiently) until he is relaxed enough to go.
I guess it was the weather, when mine was a pup she was very good at going outside, but I remember one day when it was raining she came in ran into the living room and quickly peed on the carpet !
It will get easier, just hang on in there.
When my pup has a accident inside I am mopping the floor with biological washing powder mixed with flash to deter him from doing it in the same place again.
My pup is 13 weeks and we still have some accidents. Don't worry.
We have only just stopped taking him out at 1am to do a wee.
It does get easier, my sheltie was probably the worst to stay dry over night, perhaps because she's smaller she needed to wee more frequently? I don't know, but she does poo still a lot more frequently than my collies.
It does get easier. Your pup is still a baby, and he will make mistakes. You'll have good days, and not so good days, but eventually he will be able to hold it until he's let out, and indicate that he wants to go out. It's possible that he has a bit of an upset tummy, too, which means he can't hold it as long. My dog is 22 months and had an indoor accident last month because he had a bad tummy. Not his fault at all, and he was very distressed. It really does get easier x
I love my 15 week old sheltie but today we are having a bad day and he is really getting to me! Just as I was thinking in my head "yay he's getting the hang of the of it, he does a big sloppy poo in my kitchen, then a wee, then nearly poos but I catch him!.....
We have had him for 5 weeks, he is constantly supervised. I take him out every hour, and that has been working well, before today he hasnt pood in the house for 10 days! Hes had a couple of wees but only a couple! Yesterday he was pawing at the door when he needed to be let out, i was sooo relieved cos although he hasnt had many accidents, it's only been because I watch him constantly and if I can't he goes in his crate! This morning though, I let him out he just had a wee and wanted to come in..normally I would make him stay out longer but the weather was awful! so i stayed in the kicthen with him right by the door so if i saw him sniffing about frantically like he does when he needs one, i could put him out quickly. I literally turned my back for 5 seconds and he pooood all over the place! I caught him half way through and put him outside... because he had only just had a wee I thought he would be ok but he then weed all over the floor as soon as I let him in! now he has just been in the room with me and again just attempted to squat and poo again! I caught him before he started and put him outside where he did it... Feels like we are going backwards!!!
I have 2 kids 4 years and 21months, I have struggled for 5 weeks...it has been difficult REALLY difficult... I know its my own fault for getting a dog with young kids... and I love him to bits but please...someone tell me it gets easier!
