Your family have done the bravest and kindest thing you could for her xx

eslteacher Wed 10-Apr-13 14:52:44

I'm so sorry. I keep feeling tears behind my eyes.

I'm so glad for your dog though, that she is loved so much and is being cared for so lovingly right up to the end.

In tears here too as I was in your DP's position a few months ago. It was truly devastating but ultimately the right thing to do and strangely a relief once it was over.
Sending you all the very best x

poppymagnum Wed 10-Apr-13 16:01:42

So sorry. Big hugs to you all.

thanks everyone
she went very peacefully when the vet put her to sleep
dp was stroking her and I was holding her head and talking to her

weve buried her and arranged stones over the grave

dp is looking dreadful but he knows he has done the best for his best friend

dd2 is just sobbing

hopefully her birthday cake later may brighten her a little

RandallPinkFloyd Wed 10-Apr-13 16:29:26

So sorry to read this Trinity my thoughts are with you all tonight .

Maybe go and get something from the garden centre tomorrow to plant on her grave ? It helps I think .
You did the right and loving thing for her .

needastrongone Wed 10-Apr-13 20:55:32

Thoughts are with you. We planted a tree when I miscarried, that did help tons. It was a beautiful silver birch and helped mark the memory somehow. It grew tall and strong and was a source of comfort not pain eventually. Hugs. Xx

ClaraOswald Wed 10-Apr-13 20:59:32

I'm sorry Trin.

(((Hugs))) to you all x

JumpingJackSprat Wed 10-Apr-13 21:23:28

Im so sorry for your loss. eventually the pain does become less but its so so hard in those first few weeks and months. youve made the right decision though.

when my first childhood pet died my parents took me to the gardem centre and i chose a beautiful shrub to go in thr garden. Now its a reminder of all the animals we have had over the years. maybe it might help to get your dcs to choose one together in time.

TrinityRhino Wed 10-Apr-13 22:04:29

thankyou everyone

dp got drunk and fell asleep
maybe not the best thing to do but I've made sure he has eaten something and I'll look after him tomorrow

it was always going to hit him really hard but after losing his mum in February I think it has really really hit him hard sad

after we buried her he was talking to dd2 about buying some flowers to plant around the grave
we'll do that soon

his ex is ferreting out all the photos she can find of ddog

RIP Cleo xx

Magicmayhem Thu 11-Apr-13 11:07:41

sad story, sad
My DP's dog is 16 and lives with me due to his circumstances, I'm dreading the day he passes on... we just make sure he know's he's loved every day... (the dog that is)

TheSlug Thu 11-Apr-13 12:01:51

Trinity- just read this and am now in tear at work! Just wanted to say well done to you both for making such a hard decision, you did the right thing for your lovely dog. Hugs X

TheSlug Thu 11-Apr-13 12:02:10

Tears that was supposed to be!

1MitchellMum Thu 11-Apr-13 12:51:50

So very sorry. I've been through this four times but it never gets easier. It may be therapeutic to write down all the little memories about and habits that Cleo had. They'll provide happiness in years to come when looking back. Time will heal ... but our precious bridge dogs won't be forgotten. RIP Cleo, you were a much loved dog. x
