Hi all we have a German shepherd cross lab bitch. She's about 11 years old and never any probs with her health. Recently we've noticed that she will shiver for a few seconds buT is ok with a few cuddles after a while.
Today I heard a noise in the hall and she was sitting up shivering quite violently so she was moving along the floor and her teeth were chattering really loudly, she was like this for about a minute until the postman rang the doorbell then she seemed to snap out of it. I have her a treat and her tail was wagging and her nose was wet. It's not cold in the house. Any ideas?
Thanks

Both mine do this when mega excited. Things like me getting the leads, or someone arriving at the front door set them off. It is adrenalin I think.

Did the noise set it off? My dog is very very scared of strange noises/bangs/beeps and will literally quake with fear poor thing. The handset for the cordless phone started beeping when I'd been on it for an unusually long time and was warning that the battery was getting flat - the dog was in bits, shaking, salivating the works. Bonfire night is not a happy time in this house.

It's very common in greyhounds. They either do it when very excited (just before a walk) or when they are happily relaxing (such as when having a cuddle).

Hi thanks guys, no she was in the hall and nothing at all going on when she just started shivering (no sudden noises or anything) after about a minute or so the doorbell rang and the noise of doorbell seemed to snap her out of it was very weird as she was shaking so hard she was moving across the floor was quite worrying to watch. The chattering of her teeth was very loud and was like she couldn't control it, this has happened about 5 or 6 times now but this was the worst time definitely.

My friend had a greyhound that used to shiver when excited but this seemed very different and is a new thing as she's an old dog

Not saying it's pertinent here but just in case...my dog got the shivers a week or so ago. A few days later we spotted some blood on the floor. He had an infected paw..hence the shivers.

Did it seem like a fit?

Thanks shouts will keep an eye out.

Beamur her previous shivers we haven't really taken much notice of as she's quite a nervous dog but this was def something odd and not quite right about it, I did wonder if it was some sort of fit and that maybe the previous shivers were just smaller fits perhaps
