URGENT HELP PLEASE - STRAY DOG IN KITCHEN!

Have tried dog warden, no answer - left message, cut off half way through.

Have tried an animal rescue/welfare place, no joy - no answer.

cant find RSPCA bloody number, just the cruelty line.

Have a staffie with no ID, who is stressing in my kitchen.

I have 9 yo DD, a dog, 2 cats and tiny house, cant keep her here but can't release her (she won't go anyway, just sits at my back door crying)

She's lovely natured but seems stressed.

I'm 8 months pregnant and stressed!!!! I had wanted to go to bed.

the cruelty line for the RSPCA will deal with it but police would be quicker

I've had one in my garden before and they sent the dog handler round

Phone the police. They should come and collect dog for you and take it to kennels. Best I can suggest. Good luck!

I don't think you're going to get any answer from anything other than an emergency line at this time of night.

Is the dog distressed enough that it's an emergency, do you think?

can't you put something soft for it to sleep on on the kitchen floor, give it some food and water, and close the kitchen door and deal with it in the morning?

I can't leave it til the morning, nobody helping though.

Dad just turned up, has taken her for a walk round to see if anyone looking for her.

33 weeks pregnant and tired and emotional.

Thanks for advice. If it comes to it I will have to have her here, but she seems very stressed when I close her in the kitchen

Sorry but unless the dog is going nuts and is a danger to you or your family, the police aren't going to be interested - they passed all responsibility for strays over to the councils several years ago. Also RSPCA will more than likely tell you to contact the dog warden

Your local council should have an out of hours emergency helpline which should have a real person on the end and they will be able to tell you what the council policy is. Chances are it will be ring the dog warden back at 9 in the morning.

I think the only choice you have is to bed the dog down in the kitchen or open the door and let it go - not a great choice but it depends on what you are happiest doing.

Dad found her owner, happy ending - well.....he was a "bit of a scrote" and seemed suspicious of dad, but they're back together now thankfully.

I can't believe how little help there was out there, no out of hours coverage.

Normally take things like this in my stride but this stressed me out big time.

Sorry just to clarify, make me sound like a snobby cow and for why I was stressed. Big call for status dogs round these parts and while I know that staffies are gorgeous dogs (aunt has 2 who are daft as brushes) I didn't know this one and was scared in case she turned on me - although, again, appeared to be as daft as a brush.

You don't know round here though, most of the dodgy people have a staffie at their side!

No thats fine - I wasn't implying anything - I am an ex-dog warden who was working when the police washed their hands of any responsibility of strays and the council I was working for decided that they wouldn't provide a service overnight or at weekends.

I would still get phonecalls to deal with dogs out of hours and then have to deal with the grief when I said I couldn't do more than scan the dog for a chip as I had nowhere to take them

Also had plenty of statue dogs to deal with - including the rottie who tried to take my face off while he was high on his owners drugs - he was used to test how strong the drugs were before they hit the street

oh no, sorry (god I am so rubbish at typing/brain in gear) I know hyou weren't implying anything, it was when I had read my comments back and thought I sounded unhinged not too far from the truth

I have no idea how you could deal with such situations - poor Rottie, but that is pretty much what happens in some areas not too far from here, they are used to fight and/or as deterrants from gangs/drug dealers etc.

We are mega dog lovers and I always end up with an injured animal or lost dog in my back garden (last summer it was a beautiful Boxer girl, luckily had ID so I called owner and was sorted htere and then).

I felt so useless this evening.

Hot choc and bed. Thank god my dad was available to come over and help!
