Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound).

I didn’t really want you,
I wasn’t really sure,
And I’ll admit I had my doubts,
When you first came through that door.
Not small, or cute, or fluffy,
With big, soft puppy eyes,
But tall, and thin, and bony,
With bald, pink, bulging thighs.
You weren’t the kind I had in mind,
Not in any way,
“Perhaps it would be better if I took you back today,
Before we know each other,
It really won’t be kind,
To keep you here for one more day,
And then to change my mind.”
But against my better judgement, I decided you could stay,
And quickly I discovered you were kind in every way,
Your gentleness and patience, they really stole the show,
“Why these dogs are wonderful, I must let others know!”
For you’re my gentle giant,
Who just needed the chance,
To show us all what you could be,
To wipe away that history,
And dispel our preconceptions, which put us all to shame,
And so we come to know and love,
What lies beneath that frame.

And now I’ve come to understand,
What I missed right at the start,
That greyhounds need that great deep chest,
To house their great big hearts!

Oooh this is a nice new, freshly washed cushion... Looks a bit like a sofa to me (based on mistlehound's preferred lounging spot anyway)

impty Sun 03-Feb-13 22:18:16

Joining... owned by a lurcher and an affie grin

LostInWales Sun 03-Feb-13 22:20:14

Lovely <turns around a few times to bed it down> time to sleep now, see you all tomorrow.

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersWife Sun 03-Feb-13 22:21:57

Welcome Impty! Did you join on the old one? I recognise your name.
Btw, affie?

BehindLockNumberNine Sun 03-Feb-13 22:24:40

Oooh, a new one, already? Fab grin

Whippety boy currently snoring on sofa after long walk with two friends. Between us we had one whippet, two whippet lurchers, one collie/beagle cross, one jack russel / poodle cross and one jack russel crossed with presumed sausage dog. All rescues. Mayhem!

BehindLockNumberNine Sun 03-Feb-13 22:24:58

affie - affenpinsher?

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersWife Sun 03-Feb-13 22:25:11

grin Lost

The Sprocket waddle may be funny but it's the waddle he does when he's desperate for a poo and just can't find a good spot and just can't hang on any longer. I'm relieved I got him outside in time! He started to squat in the dining room shock

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersWife Sun 03-Feb-13 22:26:10

Afghan hound? Ooh I'm jealous if it's an Afghan, they're beautiful dogs.

impty Sun 03-Feb-13 22:28:14

Hello <<waves>> no, not on the last one.
Affie = afghansmile = mad, tempremental, stubborn, hard work but heart of goldgrin
Lurcher is my soul dog though..she's my babysmile

mistlethrush Sun 03-Feb-13 22:32:21

impty - there was an afghan racing last time we took mistlehound racing (once a month, lurcher racing!) and his coat won

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersWife Sun 03-Feb-13 22:36:00

Ohh I'm jealous envy Can I be cheeky and ask if there's any chance of some piccies of your hounds?

<wonders if Sprocket would mind a Cher wig>

BehindLockNumberNine Sun 03-Feb-13 22:38:03

Loving the idea of sprocket in a wig.... Will get one for Sam too, they could form a double act... grin

Love Afghans, so graceful!

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersWife Sun 03-Feb-13 22:38:27

<Hands Impty award for first Afghan hound on the cushion>

LostInWales Sun 03-Feb-13 22:43:30

Oooh I'd love an afghan. And a salukie, couple of iggies, greyhound...

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersWife Sun 03-Feb-13 22:50:57

Lost when you win the lottery you should open up a Sighthound Sanctuary, you'll be able to have every pointy under the sun that way grin

It will have a lovely big enclosed field, and an enclosed section of woods. Woods are always exciting places for dogs! The kennels will be more like a load of cosy cabins, with a log fire and a comfy sofa for each hound.

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersWife Sun 03-Feb-13 22:52:55

Oh and its own private fenced in beach! Sandy, not pebbly.

MagratGarlik Sun 03-Feb-13 23:02:39

Coming to settle down on the new cushion.

LostInWales Mon 04-Feb-13 10:30:28

I have a field! By a sandy beach as it happens <daydreams> With dog houses that look like these chicken coops?

Just back from a fantastic walk on the beach, 6 whippets having a lovely time, recall totally lost as they found a wing and were too busy taking it in turns to run away with it to listen to hoomans. My boy actually came up and asked to go home, he was exhausted. He's had some chicken and I don't expect him to wake up much before tomorrows walk! grin

CMOTDibbler Mon 04-Feb-13 10:37:49

LostinWales - Evesham GLR have a couple of salukis just come in...

My pointy is snoozing on the sofa, having been for a 6 mile walk (for the humans, the dogs did about 60) up local hill yesterday with friends and dogs. He was vvvv good and actually recalled when in company! Bless him though, he was exhausted last night

impty Mon 04-Feb-13 13:08:36

Hello again. I hope to become a bit more active here when things settle down. We've had our gorgeous, scruffy, rough coated lurcher for almost two weeks and she has wormed her way into our hearts. It took about a week. I kept saying to DH that I didn't think I had bonded with her and then I had some time with her at home by myself and just loved having her around. She's a very sweet natured dog. Now it seems DH and I are fighting for attention from her and our children are not getting a look in with the dog or us grin I haven't been able to get any good photos yet though.

mistlethrush Tue 05-Feb-13 13:37:40

Bryte - mistlehound started off by being very much a Daddy's dog... but has changed her tune more recently, despite DH working from home, and taking her for a walk every morning before starting...
