Puppy has been sick

My lab puppy is 8 weeks tomorrow and has just been sick six times in an hour. The first time we were eating dinner so we didn't see until she had eaten most of it and just saw the stain on her bed. The last couple of times weren't much as she must have emptied her tummy. Do we just see how she goes?

No. At not quite 8 weeks, I would definitely phone the vet ASAP after that amount of vomiting.

It is certainly not a sit it out situation.

How long have you had her?

Don't offer food for the next 12 hours but she needs to drink. If you have any Diarolyte or similar in the house make that up (human rehydration solution) or you can add a teaspoon of sugar and half a teaspoon of salt to a pint of water and give her small drinks. If she can't keep fluids down you need to take her to the emergency vet tonight. Same goes if her gums are tacky rather than moist or if when you pick up the skin at the back of the neck it "tents" rather than springs back into place. Puppies have a low fluid reserve and dehydrate quickly. Was her mother vaccinated? Has she chewed anything up? Check toys etc, make sure nothing has bits missing.

Thanks for the advice. going to wake her now and offer water.
We've had her a week today, mother all vaccinated and pup had her first vaccs on tuesday.
Her neck springs back quickly. Pretty sure she hasn't eaten anything she shouldn't, she doesn't go into the garden alone and no bits of toys missing.
Dh got her to go and drink some water whilst I was typing which she did.

Please ring the vet.

They do not charge for telephone advice and are far better placed to advise than internet sprites.

Do not fuck about with an 8 week old pup. They can deteriorate on a sixpence.

I phoned the out of hours vets. She said that was a lot of times to be sick for a little puppy but keeping water down is good. They said if she is still fine in an hour then offer a tiny amount of boiled chicken and rice, and don't let her drink too much water as she may gorge on it. If she keeps that down then the same again in another hour.
She had a little play and is sleeping again.
Thanks again for the advice.

A little update- she wasn't sick anymore last night. I set an alarm for 2am to come and check on her- all fine. She ate her breakfast this morning and has been weeing and pooing normally. She's been charging around playing and seems back to normal Smile

Brilliant news.

I am glad you rang the vet last night though - vets are usually happy to chat on the phone and give advice - especially with a very young puppy.

And while a tiny pup vomiting once or twice would be pretty normal I was also concerned about the number of times your puppy had vomited. It was a lot of times. And puppies can be very very ill very very quickly!

So pleased she's OK and back to normal today.

No idea what an internet sprite may be, but I am a vet (should have said that). I'm glad she has bounced back.
