i have an 8 yo boxer. He has started to fart constantly and it stinks. He has had the odd flare up of colitis but he is fine at the moment so I don't think it's related. Is it normal for older dogs to fart a lot. It's not nice, he stinks

The obvious question - has his diet changed?

My dog farts all the time. Sometimes so loudly that he surprises himself.

They all stink.

No, he is on wet food and always has been. Not even changed the brand. Have tried to get him on dry food on many occasions in the past but he just wont have it. He does have mixer though

One of mine's smells so disgusting that he gets up & moves to the other side of the room to get away from the stink.

Incidentally, I read that the Queen's corgis are famous for it. Usually under the table when entertaining visiting dignitaries to dinner.

Ours are currently snaffling fallen cider apples and potatoes left in the fields from harvesting and the resulting farts are absolutely revolting - I light a candle every night to try and mask the stink, but without much success. Another favourite is acorns - I spend the whole time on a walk calling them away from gross things, the deader the better as far as they're concerned. You'll probably find he's eating something when he's out and about.

Try worming him. My dog always stinks when worming is needed.
