Do they bark lots like normal hounds should? I mean when somebody is at the door etc as I have an abnormal basset hound! Also is it a little dog yap or a big bark?

they bark, it's not the same as my large dogs, but it's not a yap either.

So they sound like a decent sized dog if you can't see them?

They bark. A lot.

My mum had a mini and pekoe used to think it was a HUGE dog. They lived next to a footpath with a thick 6ft hedge and you could hear walkers rushing past that bit and reassuring their children that the big dog couldn't reach them!

Honestly, people coming to the door / walking past and trying to peer into at my lovely sitting room have been astonished to come foot/nose to nose with a very small, but oh so cute miniature wire dachshund. They've expected an Alsatian at the very least.. nb- it's a proper bark, not a yap Grin

I have heard the same about standards.

Then you are very lucky quoteunquote I haven't met one yet tat doesn't like the sound of its own bark. And I agree with above is definitely a bark not a yap!

They bark a LOT and it is a proper big dog bark. If you couldn't see them on the other side of a door you'd be forgiven for thinking there was a doberman on the other side. Grin

no luck involved, just training, I can't have barking, as it would cause problems with other livestock, or alert people/animals when I prefer the element of surprise.

We have a large pack, so it not possible to allow it.

The dogs will bark on command or if instructed to be on caution, but unless we need it, they wouldn't, or they wouldn't be able to be used as working dogs, all our dogs are working dogs.

Ours likes to bark as well. Most people are very surprised at her size when they look at where the noise is coming from!
