The doghouse

How much roughly does a dog walker cost?

Hi all, we normally take our dog on holiday with us, but for once we're off to sunnier climes and my mother-in-law has kindly agreed to look after our dog in our home whilst we are away. I want to get a dog walker to take the dog out once a day as my mil is small and nearly 80 whilst my dog is in her prime, of medium build and quite strong.

I've contacted a local dog walker who quoted £9 for a 30 minute walk. TBH that seemed quite a lot, especially as I'd probably want a 45 min walk. Does anyone know if that is the going rate? Anything else I should ask about?

Thanks a lot

We charge £10 an hour or £6 per half hour, £5/£3 for a second dog. All staff fully insured and experienced, most have some sort of behavioural qualifications (proper BSc, diploma etc, not online courses).

Thanks. That sounds pretty much what I was expecting. I'll look around for other dog walkers - unless of course you're in South Bucks, in which case please PM me!

I pay £10/hour for ours (she's normally out more like 2 with pick ups & drop offs and getting to the woods where they're going). HTH.

Ours is £12 an hour. There are 3 walkers though, and one just walks (and cuddles) him, one walks with a bit of training thrown in, and one plays ball games, takes her own dog along to play with, brushes him when he gets muddy, and leaves him looking exhausted, we like her!

Thanks for all the replies - you're all paying what I was expecting to pay so will look around some more.

Our dog walker charges £12 for an 'adventure walk' (read 2-3 hours of hiking in the forest with loads of other mindees to run around with.)

She picks him up and drops him off too - Frankly I think he prefers that to walking with us!
