Dog bed recommendations?

We recently put down a hard vinyl floor downstairs as our carpet was ancient and skanky had seen better days.

Budgen, our sheltie, loves it. He thinks the new floor is heaven - wonderful and cool, but Poppy hates it and was trying to lie on the few scraps of old carpet we had left as we were pulling it up. Budgen has never had a fabric dog bed - to the point of sleeping on the bare metal in the crate . He refuses to lay on anything remotely warm and scrabbles any bedding to the side of the crate.

So I've not had much dog bed experience and as a result Poppy has an ancient dog bed that used to belong to one of my parents rescue dogs. It's just like a flat pillow with fabric over, and although she sleeps on it, I don't think there's enough warmth in it for her. She really feels the cold in the winter.

I'd like to get her something furry/ fleecy and would like to indulge myself Poppy with a nice girly colour if possible. Vetbed looks good - anyone got any experience? Or anything else that suits your dogs. And where is a good place to buy? Thanks!

My dog absolutely LOVES her beanbag. She's had it for years and I'm forever trying to replace it when it tears but she whines at night if I take it away. She'll happily sleep on a vetbed downstairs but her upstairs bed has to be this oft-repaired, smelly, holey old beanbag.

The thing is it was handmade and is HUGE so very expensive to replace. It has lasted(ish) 13 years though.

Love the bit about two beds - dogs are so funny! Is it a dog beanbag or just like a human one?

It is a human one so is more rounded and ball like than the flatter dog ones. She loves to pad it out then curl up in it. Every so often I treat her by putting more balls in it and then she has to perch on top, until it flattens enough. She's a Rhodesian Ridgeback so is very big and quite adept at sleeping .

A while back, someone on here suggested cheap Ikea duvets as dog beds. I can't remember who it was, but I am really grateful to them. We went and got a 9.99 duvet and the cheapest cover we could get. The dog loves it and it's all washable.

We have a memory foam one, seems very comfy to me anyway, and dog seems to like it too! If she feels the cold it might be worth getting one with built-up sides to keep draughts out. Not so good for ours as he's big and likes to sprawl and stretch out, and it's hard to find one large enough!

Ours didn't really get on with beanbags, he'd try to get comfy but just kept sliding off (with a confused look on his poor face).

Would hugely reccomend one of these ££££££, but have never regretted it, think it will last several generations of dogs, if not people

we have just bought one of these Durabed for my cocker as has been recommended to be by vaious people and they both love it, although they can't both fit in it as I only got the medium size but I put a blanket and some vet bed at the bottom to make it snuggly

I reckon we'd need medium in both - I like the Tuffies nest one but am wondering if I can keep quiet about justify spending £83!

WildThings, Rudy is very very adorable in his nest. I think my dog would like one of those. He has two IKEA children's beanbags (one for the sitting room and one for his bedroom) and they are always going flat. He gets very bothered when they are too thin, and then very peeved if I overfill! I notice that they are also getting a bit grey, so maybe it's time to think about new beds for him.

I really could rave about the Tuffies bed all day, I am always reccomending them. We got it in March and it still looks completely brand new.

Rudy has a large and it did seem like a huge expenditure, but when I think over previous dogs lifetimes they have probably had around 5 beanbag or soft beds all around £30 to £40 each it seems like a bargain.

I really can't see how you could ever wear it out (unless you had a chewey puppy).

Tuffies...not dear in comparison to all the cheaper beds and duvets you can go through in the mean time plus they are super comfy and stay plump and comfy no matter how often they are dug at.

And one day your dog will do something awful like shit all over its bed and you can just take it out, scrub it down and it's as good as new with practically no drying time.
