Devil Dog has his crate. Going into Devil Dogs crate is punishable by death. It is his and his alone. The same goes for the footstool. Only he is allowed it.
This leaves the other two with:
Whippy's crate
The greyhound's kingsized duvet - which is brought downstairs when we get up.
dd1's bed
The sofa
1 large dog cushion we bought from a charity show.
1 small dog cuhsion we bought for Devil Dog, which he won't use.
A variable number of piles of soft toys or clothes the dc leave lying around the house.
So why, oh why, do the two hounds only want Whippy's bed? Whippy is happy to share, but the grey has to get in first as it's a Whipet sized crate, not a greyhound crate and if Whippy is already in there she cannot squeeze in. Once she is in Whippy can get in on top of her.
This means whenever Whippy is sleeping in her crate and the Grey decides she wishes to sleep (which is often) she stands at the door howling until Whippy gives in and gets out to let her in

I have several million dog beds around my house, so why do they all want the same bed?

Haha, mine do this too! I say "on your bed" when visitors come/ I don't want them attacking the postman/ and they both go to the same one. It doesn't matter which one, just as long as they are shoving each other for room on it.
They do it with the crate too. It's really not big enough for both of them and they will ignore it all day, but if one gets in, the other will squeeze alongside.
On top of this, DH built a beautiful kennel for Budgen our sheltie just in case he felt like he ever needed a shelter in the garden. He never used it, not once in 9 years. Then Poppy came along and decided it was quite a nice place to lay. Suddenly, Budgen absolutely loves the kennel and will push Poppy out! I think they are just contrary

Lolly has her crate with vet bed and other things in so she can make her 'pillow' for her head, dont ask, just eyeroll along with me! Loofa has a huge waterproof covered bed that I got at Crufts last year, it is lovely and if I ever had to I wouldnt mind having a snooze on it myself... lolly always goes and lies on it and eyes up loofa.
So of course at Discover dogs or Crufts I will be the one buying massive cushioned, waterproof dog beds - and I bet they still argue over the big blue one.
