Worms help?

My 15 week old pup still has worms and fleas. Fleas irritating him a lot, to the point he doesn't want to do much other than scratch, even when out in the garden. I think the worms are causing poo problems and he walks about the garden while doing one, leaving small deposits everywhere. Really hard to clean up and I have a toddler. Vet has given me second spot on treatment for both problems (stronghold) which I put on last night.
Questions are, how long should it take for this dose to take effect? Will ridding him of the worms firm up his poo? (or DH, particularly, will go mad!)? And is there anything else I should do? Have done the cat as well and sprayed the only carpet. Keep washing and changing his bedding too. Thanks.

No specific advice I'm afraid but our vet has given us advocate for worms and fleas and Drontal tablets for the worms. It was only the tablet that made us realise she had worms (when it's effects could be seen) boke
