I saw them in a parked car (late afternoon, not hot!) the other day - 2 of them - both were

small-medium size
light sandy fur
pricked ears
pale blue eyes

Having googled I think they had a look of husky about them, but were much smaller.

TIA Smile

thanks, Mutt - nothing like that though - they were kind of like foxes, but a bit bigger, with short fur, & very narrow upright ears (& these piercing pale blue eyes)

I should have taken a photo!

Shiba inu? Can't link I'm on my phone. They look fox like imo.

no, neither of those either!

not puppies, def full-grown dogs - fairly narrow pointed faces - short sandy hair.

if there'd only been one I'd have thought it was a random cross-breed but there were 2, identical.

how frustrating!

Two x breeds from the same litter? Or some new kind of designer dog with a silly name?

Report
Ponders · 02/07/2011 22:30

can that happen - getting 2 identical puppies in a cross-bred litter?

they didn't look like designer dogs, iykwim - have never seen anything like them before though...

googling again - the eyes were definitely husky, I'm sure, & so were the ears, but they had no facial markings & were sandy all over pretty much - they must have been a cross-breed of some kind then.

thanks, all Smile

It was long (hefty), but the pic showed up...

that is a hefty link!

top half of head is similar (though ears were closer together & more upright) but nose was different - more pointy & delicate.

that is quite similar, MotherJack, esp in colour, & shape of head.

but yours is more delicately built I think, & its ears are bigger, wider set & more flared - the one I saw had husky-type ears, straight up & down & close together on top of its head.

(Never heard of podencos before, thanks for the introduction Smile)

Basenji?

Report
Ponders · 03/07/2011 09:48

The Spitz & Pharaoh hound are both the right colour but the wrong build Grin

Basenji is very like although its ears are set further apart. I wonder if it might be a basenji-husky cross?

I had a basenji cross (probably lab-basenji). His eyes weren't blue, and his ears flopped over, and he was a total dustbin where snacks were concerned: that was the lab part Smile

But he was fox coloured, small/medium sizsed, his tail curved up over his back a bit, he licked his paws to wash them, and he was a 'talker' extraordinaire.

I would love another basenji cross

oooh, kelpies are German Australian Shepherds!

they are sort-of like, but ears are too far apart again. The ones I saw - I should have said this at the start instead of just "pricked ears" - had vertical pointy ears, with hardly any gap between, right on top of their heads. (And the unnervingly starey light blue eyes...Grin)

They weren't pups but they could have been adolescents I suppose - maybe the ears would move further apart as they got older.

(I wish now I'd hung around until their people came back - but it was a big Tesco car park, they could have been hours.)(Or taken a photo. Damn)
