how good this is grin

have only just started watching it but am swooning over jonathan rhys meyers portrayal of Henry VIII, felt sorry for anne of cleves tho

she has evil smells about her!!!

is this series 2 or 3,cos i think ill have to buy the ones ive missed.

Wilts Sat 19-Sep-09 19:23:14

It is series three at the moment, I have a soft spot for Charles Brandon grin

I think the previous two series were even better than this one, so definitely worth you getting hold of.

This series is definitely not as good as the previous ones. You will really like 1 and 2 if you are enjoying this one.

bluebump Sat 19-Sep-09 20:06:55

Charles Brandon is my favourite too Wilts. He is my real life celebrity crush!

jenk1 Sat 19-Sep-09 20:09:34

which one is charles brandon?

Wilts Sat 19-Sep-09 20:12:38

He is the Duke of Suffolk.

jenk1 Sat 19-Sep-09 20:15:00

erm, is he the one who was playing cards with anne of cleves?

Wilts Sat 19-Sep-09 20:15:25

Yes that's him!

jenk1 Sat 19-Sep-09 20:17:58

ah yes hes rather dishy, but jonathan rhys myers is a bit of a hottie as well!!!

TwoIfBySea Sat 19-Sep-09 20:36:24

The actor who plays Brandon was who Stephenie Meyers wanted as Edward in Twilight.

Ahem, I am not a nerd, much.

Anyway I thought Joss Stone was a lot better than I thought she would be, felt so sorry for poor Anne of Cleves!

bluebump Sat 19-Sep-09 20:44:51

He also missed out on a part in Harry Potter, Batman and Superman. I seem to know a lot, not that i'm a massive stalker fan or anything...

Wilts Sat 19-Sep-09 20:46:54

Ohhh I would have liked to see him Harry Potter, Charles Brandon and Severous Snape, what a combo grin

jenk1 Sat 19-Sep-09 21:01:48

yes joss was quite good wasnt she,her accent was good as well, poor thing lying there next to him while he prefers a pull, and it was him who had the evil smells!!!

cornsillk Sat 19-Sep-09 21:11:36

He is even more damn gorgeous in series 1 and 2! You should be able to get them both online for a good price if you search.

cornsillk Sat 19-Sep-09 21:12:33

It was Jonathan Rhys Meyers playing cards with Anne of Cleeves wasn't it?

Wilts Sat 19-Sep-09 21:17:15

Charles Brandon was playing cards with her before she met Henry. She was still veiled at that point and he teaching her how to play and explaining that the king 'likes to win' .

cornsillk Sat 19-Sep-09 21:27:06

Ah - must have missed that bit! Watching it on teeny portable in bedroom unfortunately!

Tambajam Sun 20-Sep-09 07:18:18

Charles Brandon is certainly yummy. He did some ads for an aftershave and I found myself staring at one for several minutes before someone shouted my name. He is too old for Twilight though.

I think Joss Stone did a great job but she's too pretty for the storyline to be believeable. It just looks like Henry has lost his marbles. Perhaps he had.

cornsillk Sun 20-Sep-09 08:39:23

Agree about Joss Stone - far too pretty. I think they are inferring that his virility is the problem.

twentyoneagain Sun 20-Sep-09 09:30:22

Can I butt in - jenk definitely buy series 1 and 2. I started watching series 2 and DH bought me series 1, they are sooo good and I agree better than this one. It is all going to be over far too quickly though!!

TwoIfBySea Sun 20-Sep-09 13:16:49

If they were taking the Holbein painting into account then perhaps it was to do more with Henry's virility than anything on Anne's part. Because didn't he suffer similar with his next wife, only she got the chop?

Awaits verification from expat!

Squitten Mon 21-Sep-09 22:28:48

I don't believe there is any evidence that he didn't. There were no children though so one can never be 100% sure. We only know he consummated his first three because there were children and great publicity about his inability with poor old Anne. I think it is almost certain that he did with Katherine Howard - that one was all about lust.

Sorry to gatecrash, but does anyone know if it's repeated during the week? Just realised Friday's recording on the sky box 'failed'.

cornsillk Tue 22-Sep-09 17:59:02

No but it's on i-player

Thanks!
