£21,000 a year they spend on food.

And they throw away about £7000 of that

I think this has to be the most extravagant lot yet.

i love allegra but couldn't face eating the same thing all week.

i made the beef pasta stuff they did last week, nothing special to be honest.
i cant imagine having to eat salmon 4 times in 1 week, or having a salmon stuck in the fridge for a week

it would be better if they gave you tips for freezing. So beginning of month you buy say the salmon the beef adn the mince - cook up all the bedrock recipes adn then freeze. So you have one of each each week. Rather than being bored to death with the same thing.

There's something very 'MN' about the family somehow

TheArmadillo i agree, mince is one thing as you can make things that have quite different tastes with it, but salmon tastes like salmon! much better to make loads and freeze

i am getting v fed up with voiceover woman continually mentioning their surname. are we meant to be googling them to find out what cupcake bunting business they are trying to push?

rabbit? rabbit? just went to the kitchen came back to find him cooking rabbit - dd would leave home if i tried to feed her a bunny!

fishie · 26/08/2009 20:40

ds is desperate to eat rabbit but i don't like it. that rabbit recipe would make an old sponge lovely so it was a bit of a cheat.

I paused this so am a little bit behind but it is starting to grate that the families are so obviously not struggling to fit a budget. I'm just jealous at their big fancy kitchen!

And that oldest daughter is a right mirthless madam.

Their mince recipe was in the issue of Good Food and it did say to make it and freeze it in batches to use when required rather than have the same thing day after day.

Whi has 3 sea bass just hanging around in the fridge a 'leftovers' which can then be used for friends coming to tea?
What a load of rubbish!

Report
TwoIfBySea · 26/08/2009 21:13

Was thinking that too blametheparents, I can't even afford sea bass let alone have it as leftovers conventiently hanging around the fridge!

Calling it 'economy' is such a misnomer

I am watching this now.

The couple don't look happy about having to do a surprise meal and using the sea bass they bought for themselves.

Report
FabBakerGirlIsBack · 27/08/2009 16:39

They are def NOT MN material!

Report
GossipMonger · 27/08/2009 16:39

They must know though that something is going on with surprise people.

first couple had a whole joint of beef

second couple had loads of chicken

I do love the prog but it is so odd! and I could feed my family for a week on their leftovers!

I like some of the recipes and it is food porn but I was bored this week. The programme makers repeat the same info as fillers. Couldn't be bothered to watch the meal for mates. Were they shopping in ASDA again? Me smell something fishy. I love cooking but I don't get the economy part of this programme! If I went to my local butcher for rabbit, he will fleece me like he did Christmas 2007 £75.00 for a Organic turkey!!! I ordered it and didn't ask the price, never, ever again. I can't see rabbit being cheap around here! I do fancy trying it.
I don't think the recipes are very healthy either TREACLE TART! Heart attack on a plate!

They chuck away more than we buy

Rabbits cheap around here. Cost of a cartridge
