My Big Decision - Loosing my Virginity

I watched this programme on BBC Trhee last night, it was really interesting.

It followed 2 families with teenage girls in them, they were at the age where they ere begining to think about sex.
They went on a week roadtrip to discover all they could about sex before deciding on wether or not they were ready to loose thie virginity.

They visited a Bots School and spoke to some teenage boys about thier feelings on contraception and the "right" time.

They spoke to tracey Cox (sex expert) about what to expect from sex and how to experiment with masturbation and vibraors before going the whole hog.

They also visited Holland and spoke to a Mother and Daughter who had a real open relationship and about the sex culture in Holland.

They then went to the Red light district and these 2 girls were really scared at walking through it, one poor lass was crying at the sight of the women in the windows.

They also spent the week discussing past experiences and getting info from thier mothers and grandmothers.

In the end they decided they were not ready but were now really well informed on the good and bad side of sex and relationships that go with it.

I think this is a really good idea adn i plan to be open and honest with my boys when they get a bit older and let them be informed about sex.

I think teens mainly get a negative image about sex from thier parents and schools, i think its great that the girls in the programme got an informative view on the good things about sex as well as the not so good.

Discuss?

Didn't see the programme. Think that good sex education is of course a good idea. Howver re deciding whether it is the right time to lose your virginity - my opinion is that if it is such a big decision to make then its probably not the right time!

Oh yes i agree, i don't think the programme was intended to be a yes im going to do it now or no im not sort of thing, i think it was becuase these girls had alot of question that thier parents werent answering as they were embarrased ect.

I just wonder if schools should maybe have a week in the year dedicated to sex ed, having people like Tracey Cox in to talk about sex from all aspects, she told them that it might not feel amazing first time and it wont be like the movies!
Also to have a dedicated contarception expert and maybe someone like the embarassing bodies team.

When i was at school (not that long ago) we had maybe 3 lessons with our teacher yelling us how to put a condom on and that was it, we had a bus that would come round and we could go in and chat about it if we wanted but no one ever did, it was all a huge joke to us.

I was hoping to watch this on the web later on with DDs, 15 and 13.

I have always been open and we've talked about anything and everything concerning sex from an early age - my attempt at not being my mother, who still can't even say the word! I was convent educated in the 1970s when the only sex ed we were given was "it's a sin". Obviously, contraception was off the agenda too. The Dutch approach seems to have worked well for years.

What I've found recently though is the eldest regards any such conversation as an invasion of her privacy. All I can do is hope that I got the message through in earlier, more impressionable years.

By the way, TisalinaBumsquash is my new favourite alternative swear word - it's just so satisfying to say. Does it mean anything?
