Why has my sky box just turned itself off?

And, no, I have not sat on the remote. Checked already.

It has turned off as in on standby, red button and wont turn back on again.

Not that I was watching anything particularly interesting, just annoying that I have no crap to flick through now.

pull the power supply out leave it for 30 seconds then plug back in. reset it and try if it works.

Ours does that every now and then. We think the wire at the back comes loose or something because once it would not come back on until dh played around with the wire. Most of the time it comes back on after a few minutes.

ooh i would have said count to ten then plug it back in, or smack it really hard, frustration never works for me but it may work for you

pavlovthecat Fri 05-Jun-09 20:46:17

differentID, now that sounds complicated grin Where is DH when I need him? grin. I have just figured out that our sky remote turns the tele off though. See, a learing experience <goes to locate cable amongst sea of cables behind tv> I may be some time !

pavlovthecat Fri 05-Jun-09 20:46:41

cookie - it might not work, but will be cathartic!

differentID Fri 05-Jun-09 20:47:47

pavlov you are a woman, you can do this without dh help.

pavlovthecat Fri 05-Jun-09 20:48:09

DifferentID, thank you for fixing my tele. turned it off, then on again. And now I have that stupid annoying man telling me if I turn onto stand-by I could power birmingham for a whole year...why do I give a toss about birmingham, what about my power? grin

differentID Fri 05-Jun-09 20:48:58

lol- I shall tell dh thank you thengrin

pavlovthecat Fri 05-Jun-09 20:49:03

I know i can do it. But I can do most things without his help. Its good for our relationship for him to think there is something I cannot do without him! technology is one of those things.

pavlovthecat Fri 05-Jun-09 20:49:19

grin AHA!

cookielove Fri 05-Jun-09 20:49:26

yay telly for you

OrmIrian Fri 05-Jun-09 20:50:01

Good!

Go and do something constructive.

<prim>

We made our own entertainment in my day.

<sniff>

pavlovthecat Fri 05-Jun-09 20:50:27

YAY, some mindless nonsense, rather than fuzzy screen grin. Not sure why it was so important but its that addictive thing isn't it. Must. Have. Tele.

pavlovthecat Fri 05-Jun-09 20:51:19

Orm - I am MN'ing...is that constructive? grin I could just do that, but I don't want the quiet and I can't be assed to go and sort out music.

Sidge Fri 05-Jun-09 20:51:35

Is the auto standby on?

If it's not being used it will switch itself off.

Otherwise try rebooting it as differentID suggests. Our old box used to freeze (and then finally the hard drive blew but let's hope that doesn't happen to yours).

OrmIrian Fri 05-Jun-09 20:52:48

Ooh well listen to Green Day with me then.

It's vairy loud grin

pavlovthecat Fri 05-Jun-09 20:55:20

Side - by 'not being used' to you mean I might not have changed the channel for half hour? grin

pavlovthecat Fri 05-Jun-09 20:56:02

Puts on headphones and plugs in to Orm's music.

Tis good! My SIL just been to see them in California.

OrmIrian Fri 05-Jun-09 21:00:11

I think they may be fuelling my mine midlife crisis. Am playing all their albums very loud (even DS#1 is telling me to turn it down) and wearing skinny jeans and short skirts. Quite tragic really grin

Sidge Fri 05-Jun-09 21:04:18

LOL Pavlov I dunno grin

I'm not exactly sure when it goes onto standby as DH drives me bonkers with his itchy remote control finger flicking through channels! Ours is never on one channel for long!
