House of Tiny Tearaways BBC3 tonight - did anyone watch it?

I didn't like it how Dr. Tanya Byron ( who I think is great really) went into full-on "He's going to sleep in his own bed tonight" mode with the little toddler who sleeps badly. I mean this was a strange environment for the poor little baby!
Couldn't believe the couple with the two-and-a-half year old "Do you want your tea? No? Do you want a brown yog-yog instead?" Please...
Will be interested to see this, even though I think it's a bit much that it will be on every night this month.

I watched it and thought it was good. I thought the family with the nearly 3 year old treated him more like a baby!

I really like d the show, very interesting indeed.I felt v sorry for the single mum with the son who wouldn't sleep - whe was really sweet I thought. Also forthe mum of the 2 girls, she was so exhausted and disillusioned. The parents of the yog-yog boy were a bit annoying though!

I felt sorry for the parents of yog, yog boy, the dad looked like a right softie, I thought he was going to cry at one point, when being told off by Tanya! my guess he was a bit of a mummys boy and is doing the same with his lad, ho hum, sure she'll sort him out!
Again also felt sorry for the single mum, but he did well to sleep 6 hours straight in a new environment, I feel its bad enough getting them into a routine, when there's two of you, let alone, having to try and do it on your own.

Interesting prog - made me think how great my kids are & how much I love being a sahm. So happy to do attachment parenting - feel it would help these parents so much. I suppose watching this show it's easy to think of all the answers!! Would get the toddler who doesn't eat properly out of the highchair & get him to help to make the dinner & then have him sit in a proper chair and just let him get on with eating. Perhaps get him his own size chair & table. Could also grow some herbs & veg, bake some bread & cakes - he'd love to eat what he had made. The other parents with the two girls just need to calm down & start enjoying their kids. Lots of contact & praise would help. The single mum seems really committed to her little boy & was so friendly with the other kids. Sleep is tricky but making a special sleep area for her little boy would help. So interested to see what happens. Good luck to all the parents & kids - they all want to do their best for their little ones & I have lots of respect for that.

I watched this last night usually can't get bbc3 on our freeview unless it's really clear day. But them parents with the boy who wouldn't eat, they were fussy and fiddling around him, really drove me up the wall, i wanted that Dr byron to tell them to stop it!! They treated him like he was a baby of 9 months or something,GRRRRRRRR

I was almost in tears watching those poor parents exacerbating their own problems. How come what seems common sense to a lot of us - milward for instance - is totally hidden from some people?

Actually, I think if they hadn't made Dante sleep in his own bed from the off, they'd just have recreated the home situation. Just because he does it away from home won't necessarily make it easier when they get back to familiar territory. but let's hope it helps, for his mummy's sake.

Is it me or does Louis (yog yog boy) actually look quite ill?

I was also wondering about them being away from home. I assume they must have factored that in, to some extent anyway, otherwise surely it would be a big (and expensive, judging by that house) waste of time? Or not?

It's on again now - brown yog-yog parents were mad and the fact he was having his third one of the day at lunchtime...

Milward, fab ideas - amazing how some people don't even seem to like their children, isn't it?

Oh god, now he is having one for breakfast!!

I'm not at this stage yet so serious question - what sort of age do kids normally come out of high chairs?

Report
hunkermunker · 03/05/2005 20:08

Younger than him usually, I reckon.

The other family were giving their daughter Mueller LIght yoghurts for breakfast yesterday - is it me or is that a strange choice, too?

I wonder about the way they are doing this, too - ie being outside the home environment. With the little boy and his sleep cues in "his" bedroom - will he be able to do the same thing all over again at home?

My dd2 hasn't been in a high chair since she was 16 months old.

Can't watch it tonight as dh is watching the footy. Please update me if anything exciting happens!

I also think with the non-eating boy it would be nicer if they just all ate together, leaving him to get on with it, instead of Mum and Dad both full-on trying to coax him into eating.

Yog yog dad has just lost his temper (we predicted this on night one, as he is clearly pushing his feelings down like mad).

The "audience for dinner" thing the yog-yog parents do is weird in the extreme!

Report
beansprout · 03/05/2005 20:13

I couldn't eat with an audience so I'm not sure why Louis is supposed to!

Report
milward · 04/05/2005 15:20

hunkermunker - agree the audience for dinner is abit too much. Would just let him get on with his meal as part of a family eating together. They seem to sit & watch him eat - agree with emkana here - would feel strange myself being watched & coaxed into eating my dinner!! Such an interesting prog. Good going on the parents for allowing themselves to be put under such close supervision - wonder what Dr B would make of my family in that environment!!! Thought the little one complaining about leaving the soft play centre was a completely normal reaction for a 3 yr old. Have never seen a small kid happily stroll away from one on those play areas - it's the combination of loads of fun & sensory overload. Was abit surprised to see little Dante in the car with no car seat - he's only 22 months so really needs one. Think his mum is doing a great job helping him sleep - but feel his prob is due to him waking up instead of going into a deep sleep more than sleeping in his mums bed. Wish them all luck.
