We don't do McDonald but generally the whoile programme is saying much more than how bad McD is.... and Burger King and all the others are NO better.
Though a month of 3 meals a day at mcD is torture LOL.
I mean the man vomitted it on day 2!

How interesting that the company Sodexho is responsible for the junk food in the school. That name keeps coming up!

At the bank call centre where I used to work it was in charge of the cafeteria and the food was so awful the only time I ate it was at the Christmas dinner. Even then it was yuck.

Shocking I know velcro but it isn't as tho anyone is forced to eat that food, or smoke those ciggerettes. It is all down to personal choice after all. And there is enough publicity about how bad these things are for you. Problem is that people on lower incomes rarely get the choice to better themselves food wise because it is so damn expensive to eat well. Tis much cheaper to go to macdonalds after all, dispite the unheathy food.

McDonalds have been successfully sued, many times though. All because they keep saying that their food is healthy. If they'd said, it's not that healthy if you eat too much of it, they'd never have lost a penny.

Bless.

Read the book Fast Food Nation, it will put you off junk food for life.

We watched this too...yeugh! I read an article about the guy Morgan who made the film, apparently he tried to sue McDs and lost his case, ended up having to pay thousands in costs. But last I heard he was chasing another way of suing them. Thank goodness for people like him who are willing to go to such lengths to expose this kind of thing.

It wouldn't occur to me to enter a McDonald's. If I was very hungry and there was nothing else then maybe. But I haven't eaten in one for at least five years. If I'm hungry when I'm out shopping I get a sandwich or a pastie. Maybe not healthy either but I try to pick decent ones and at least it isn't fried. When we eat out we have curry, normally with lentils, or tapas or something with vegetables.

I am no fan of mcdonalds either, but I thought it was a bit extreme the way he threw up after a supersize big mac. They aren't that big. Maybe it was because he was only used to vegan meals. I feel much of the film was eggagerated for effect. This was not a public service documentary afterall, it was not put on tv so everyone could see it. It was put on the cinema so that they could make shedloads of money out of it.
It is no surprise that fast food is bad for you. Surely we all know this.I did agreed with the point made about advertising to children though. When my dd grows up I will be in a dilemma whether to take her to McD occassionally or to ban it completely (which would be fine with me). Surely if we ban it completely it becomes more desirable. What do you say when your child says "my friends all go to McD so why can't we?"

kerfuffle, the supersized meals in the USA are much larger than ours.

kerfuffle · 29/04/2005 12:11

R really, I didn't know that. I rarely go to McD's purely because they don't appeal to me. I do loads of other things that are bad for me though, too much red wine and chocolatefor example. Those supersize soft drinks were pretty hideously large though weren't they? I like a can of diet coke as much as the next person but WTF?

Kerfuffle, I don't think he was a vegan - his girlfriend was but he never was. Although, he did go on a (presumeably vegan) detox that his vegan girlfriend designed for him after the month of McDonalds meals.

Also, I think, as anorak says, the supersize meals in the States are much, much bigger than the supersize meals in the UK.

All the US portion sizes used to be huge compared to UK ones. Even the size of the Happy Meal drinks. Don't know if they've changed this.

Yes, truly gross. I love a diet coke but if I drink more than about a pint of it in one day I start to feel quite yucky.

Report
psychomum5 · 29/04/2005 12:17

Watching the film I think that the american supersize portion are at least twice as big as our largest.....no surprise that he threw up really, I'd bet he did it because he simply couldn't physically eat that much. Any of us would throw up if we ate two lots of large in one sitting.
