Some of them are a bit samey.

Esp. the Monster of the Week ones.

But sometimes they do a quirky one which is a bit different, e.g. the bank raid in a time-loop, and the alien baseball player flashback one.

I think they are about to cut Season 6 short before the end-of-season cliffhanger and flip right back to the start of the first season again!

the first series was really good, spooky

spooky tv seems to have been taken over by teenagers now.

70s spooky tv was the best, like armchair thrillers

I love the X files. Has anyone seen the episode called Home? Its the most terrifying piece of television ever. I only saw it a couple of years ago as I don't think it was shown here originally as it caused a storm in the US when it was shown. Its about 3 inbred brothers on a murderous rampage. It scared the living daylights out of me when I watched it anyway!!

Started last night, meridian - ep. 2 was tonight and so much of the mythology is already there, so early. The government conspiracy, the UFOs, "Deep Throat", even the idea that "they" are already here and have been for some time! I thought that was meant to be the big twist which reveals it "all" later in the series? And there it is in plain sight in the second ever episode!

Wintera

Completely agree, first time I watched that couldn't sleep properly for days... it was just so wrong!

Anniek - I know, a truly horrific episode! The bit where they murder the sheriff and his wife in their home haunted me for ages after. And then the bit when Mulder and Scully find their Mother!!!!!!!!!!!

I always liked the stand alone episodes best.. the black oil got really tedeious after awhile...

[spoilers]

I think they get away with it UnquietD by having a load of aliens, then having Mulder think the govt made the aliens up, then having that be a govt conspiracy so that there actually are aliens (or are they!) thing I love to death about the X-files is the ambiguity. We still don't know who Scully's baby's dad is! (Do we?)

Mulder is William's dad surely? Did anyone go and see the movie last year? I did, so I know about things that happened after but I don't want to post any spoilers!

Wintera,

I saw that episode years ago when it first came out (massive fan of the show) and it was so horrendously scary. It happened to be the one night my flatmate at the time stayed in and watched it with me, he was aghast to say the least

I saw the movie...I was a bit disappointed..
