After one series of Dr.Who. Basically says it's been great fun, wonderful response from the public, but he doesn't want to be typecast.

What a prize prat!
Honestly he has hammered one nail in the Doctor Who coffin already now?

Typecast - pillock!

they guy from casanova david tennant allegedly and he would be pretty good
although Eccles has lots of jobs on the boil and doesn't want to be "typrecast" Bless

Never did Peter Davidson any bloody harm career wise!

What a shame he seems a really good Doctor.... but I guess he is an actoooor-lovey.. so would miss out on lots of other roles,RSC etc.

Not sure about David Tennant - looks a bit weedy to me.

I was a bit surprised that it did it in the first place with his credentials! but its a bit bloody late to bleating about being typecast - did he not think of that before, its not as if he's new to acting fgs!

Maybe he saw the first episode and thought it was crap?

He's still doing the xmas specials though. It'll be a bit weird if they start the second series this year and then put Eccleston back on it for xmas!

I will give David Tennant the benefit of the doubt - he has won me over in Casanova after thinking that I would hate him, but he will never be a CE.

I think that they may be making a mistake in going for the same 'type' tho' - the cheekie, twinklie eyed type. He may just seem a lesser CE, perhaps they would be better going for someone totally different?

David Tennant was brilliant in Blackpool. Haven't seen Casanova - any good ?

I didn't fancy it from the trailers but we decided to give it twenty minutes and I was hooked after ten.

He isn't my type at all but was very good in that

All the fuss about the series coming back - if the Doctors only last 1 series each the whole thing will crash into oblivion again within a couple of years.

Pretty sure the poor sod has only got 2 or 3 incarnations left.

lilibet, will it start over when it moves to bbc1 ?

BBC's fault they should have tied him into a longer contract

don't blame the bloke honestly .. after all look what happened to Tom Baker - he was so good and disappeared for years only to resurface as a voiceover I wouldn't want that if I was an actor

We watched it on Saturday amid much hype from dh and myself about how it was an institution when we were children. The older children were very keen on it and ds2 has frequently talked about it since Saturday. He was devastated to hear this morning on CBBC that Eccleston had quit. I couldn't care less really, but I don't think he should have taken on the role if he wasn't prepared to give it a bit more time: previous actors have become very important in the minds of young viewers during their stint of playing Dr Who. (Also, based on Saturday's performance, he was a convincing Dr.)

What a shame. dh and I rather gutted .

How could he??!! Surely he knew that anyone who plays Dr Who would be typecast to a certain extent? Can't see how you can avoid it to be honest.

Must admit to feeling let down. It's just lucky I thoroughly enjoyed Casanova so am prepared to reserve judgement on David Tennant.

Think so Kayleigh - have a watch and let me know what you think

Really disappointed, I thought he would be rather good on the evidence of the first episode! Mind you, both Baker and Davison went a bit quiet afterwards so I can see his point - although if that is his feeling why take it in the first place. Personally I would be delighted to have a potentially long term job, but each to his own...

lilibet, watched the first one and it was excellent. Just loved it. Not at all what I was expecting so very pleasantly suprised.
