i dont think they prosecute if a couple of 14 year olds have sex for instance.

I think that it is serving a great purpose.. there are alot of people who really wouldn't see this as wrong. even knowing he has been doing it since she was 12.
I think the way they are doing it is really good. It shows clearly how much he has groomed her.. the time and energy he puts into it.. the manipulation.

I tend not to watch Eastenders very often, but I've heard the view expressed in your OP before, so I really hope they're doing the storyline justice and show just how evil this sort of behaviour is.

They've worked it well, that they've shown enough of their relationship for you to know something untoward is going on but kept it mainly concentrated on Whitney and what she is going through.

TinkerBellesMum is right - the police look at these things in terms of the relative ages of the couple. So a man Tony's age sleeping with a 15 yr old would be looked at v differently to a 17 yr old. Also, because he is in loco parentis to her, it would be regarded very seriously.

I think they're handling the storyline well, even if it does make uncomfortable viewing at times.

Years ago, michelle got pregnant by Den when she was about 15/16 and the whole thing was done very differently.

Bianca also had a realtionship with her mums boyfriend, Dan. I can't remember how old whe was, but she was quite young.

It's interesting to see how EE are handling a similar theme differently every decade.

I knew somebody who was cautioned a few years ago for groping a 15 year old when he was 18. I think? can't remember exact details and he was a twat - but apparently he didn't realise until her parents got involved - he's very careful with ages now though!!

So they do look at it relatively with regards to age.

But I agree I think the way they're running the storyline is really well thought out, it shows so much of the emotional side of things and how much he controls and emotionally abuses her to keep her in line, and how nobody around her has a clue. I don't think we always think about these aspects of this kind of abuse and if it helps a few more kids get help and realise that this kind of behaviour is wrong all is well IMO. I also hope it doesn't finale on christmas day though.
