looks like it could be good!

Moomin Thu 28-Aug-08 20:27:26

looks like life on mars in petticoats to me (minus gene hunt of course)

I read the synopsis today and it does sound a little like a Jasper Fforde idea.

Will watch it though.

Anything is better than Keira Knightly as Lizzie Bennett! Although Alex Kingsley as Mrs Bennett shock

i am SO fucking sick of the BBC's fascination with Austen.

truly am.

I saw the trailers and thought it looked utterly dreadful. I'm not tempted in the slightest, I'm sure I woudl loathe it.

I'll be watching as lots of it is filmed where we got married! Cannon Hall

Saturn74 Fri 29-Aug-08 22:07:51

It looks like it's going to be awful.
It just needs Emma Thompson to jump out of a wardrobe somewhere along the line, to cap it all off. grin

You can't blame the bbc for this one I'm afraid. Its on ITV!!wink

KatyMac Sun 31-Aug-08 16:27:30

AbbaFan Sun 31-Aug-08 16:29:46

KatyMac Sun 31-Aug-08 16:36:49

Thanks

The Times said you have to be intelligent enough to know the P & P plot well, but stupid enough to watch a soap-like ITV programme where there is a gap in the space time continuum behind a bathroom cabinet.

Sounds just about right for me then.... well' I'll give it a go and keep an open mind!

excellent braveandcrazy, sounds like it will suit be down to the ground!

KatyMac Wed 03-Sep-08 21:46:08

It's funny, contrived and I'm a bit hmm

southeastastra Thu 04-Sep-08 09:34:11

thought it was funny, daft but made me laugh

willali Thu 04-Sep-08 09:45:28

I felt ever so slightly uncomfortable viewing this programme - thought it was toe curlingly awful, insult to the intelligence..DH loved it though (doubt a middle age man was the target demographic but hey ho!!)

Snaf Thu 04-Sep-08 09:50:36

It was pretty ropey, wasn't it? Hugh Bonneville made me smirk now and again, that's about it. As for Darcy...words fail me, and not in a good way.

I quite enjoyed it, i couldn't be 'bothered to start watching', as i am not much of a tv person, but it forced myself an it was quite good.

Beetroot Thu 04-Sep-08 10:44:46

weird but enjoyable I thought

StellaDallas Thu 04-Sep-08 13:53:13

I thought it was quite fun, as long as you were willing to suspend all critical faculties for the duration.

BabiesEverywhere Thu 04-Sep-08 19:51:28

I loved it.

Though it does help that I am obsessed with P&P and willing ignore any naff bits to enjoy an Austen based show. grin

Looks like it will only be me and Willali's DH watching next week wink

Twinklemegan Thu 04-Sep-08 21:36:17

I enjoyed it at the beginning but quickly became a bit bored. It could have been much more subtle, but then ITV doesn't do subtle. I ended up Mumsnetting and missing the rest of it. The same as with most TV these days actually.

braveandcrazy Thu 04-Sep-08 21:46:34

I started watching but got a bit tetchy when Mr Bingley started fancying wotserface and shouted at the telly. I ended up searching Pride and Prejudice on youtube and watching clips of Colin Firth and Matthew McFadyen instead (how sad).

abouteve Thu 04-Sep-08 21:47:59

I enjoyed this. TV programs don't normally grab my attention but will be watching next week.
