Anyone reading the new Buffy/Angel comics - comments here!

I'm new to Mumsnet so apologies if there is already a thread on this somewhere else.

I've been getting the Buffy and Angel Season 8 & 6 comics since they started a few months back but have no one to discuss them with.

I personally prefer the Angel comics and am quite excited about the new Spike short run comic which is due out soon. Hopefully there will be more of him in his red PJ's (minus top part of course).

It's just a shame it's in comic format rather than TV - though I'm starting to get used to this format.

Anyone else out there reading them?

Me!

I agree about the comic format though - everytime I read them I can see how good they'd be on screen I've seen the ads for the Spike one, but I've still got to go and order it - I preorder them from Forbidden Planet as you get a discount when you pick them up.

I preorder them as well - I just picked up two Angels and a Buffy today though I haven't had chance to read them yet. (It has to be in a perfectly quiet room where I won't be disturbed by DH or DSs - preferably with a cup of tea or glass of wine at the side).

I'm up to Buffy Time of Your Life Part 1 and Angel issues 9 & 10 of After the Fall.

Apparently Spike is due out at the end of this month.

What did you think of the whole Buffy romance? I suppose a slayer is the next best thing if you can't get hold of a loved up vampire but it just didn't seem feasible to me.

I have been reading the Buffy ones still not got my hands on the Angel ones.
I like comic format anyway and really enjoy them

btw do you know there was a reunions of sorts recently sparking rumours of a movie?

I think that was the PaleyFest in America - it's the first time that SMG has turned up.

They keep talking on and off about a made for TV movie and I think a Spike one nearly happened a couple of years back but I don't think there's much chance of one now.

The only thing in the offing seems to be a Ripper spin off based on Giles character.

BTW why is Buffy so down on Giles - is it still because he tried to kill Spike??

Re the reunion there are loads of interviews and clips on YouTube if you put in Buffy and Paleyfest. I'd do links but my computers playing up with regards to YouTube .

I am happy to just keep reading comics and watching new things Joss comes up with there will be something new soon

loved Firefly too

You're a bit ahead of me - I need to go and pick up the new Buffy (with Fray, yay!) and the new Angel when I next get paid (last ones I've got are Angel#9 and Buffy#15, last part of Wolves at the Gate)
No, I know what you mean about Buffy, I think it's because I could never see SMG playing that (and that's odd really) it just seemed a bit out of character.

Loved the whole Xander arc - revisiting his Dracula minionship, although it would be nice if he didn't continuously get whomped in the whole relationship thing.

I agree - I think she thought she was set for big things on the film front but after The Grudge it all went downhill and quiet.

Maybe that's why she appeared at the Paleyfest - she's finally appreciating what she had with Buffy.

I believe Joss is doing Dollhouse with Elisha (Faith) isn't he - I'll reserve judgement on that one, sounds a bit weird.

We must be reading the same SFX mags .

I know poor Xander it seemed so unfair. It'll be interesting to see how Willow betrays Buffy - I don't think that's been fully played out yet.

OMG how did you guess I read that????

Do you go on the SFX forum though? I know there's a few of us on both, personally I tend to post more on here as it's unmoderated, and slightly less obsessively geeky Can't get a decent Supernatural conversation here though

being extremely nosy I took a peek in your profiles - it is a tribe

serenity we have had that conversation here a couple of times
no I don't post there but occasionally browse about, but I did post in the Bronze many moons ago, can't even remember my name then

I sortof remembered that - couldn't recall if you lurked occasionally. Should have directed that more at SciFiFan

My profile? Tribe wouldn't be the word I used, more like feral rabble...... (I can hear them from here, just waiting for blood to spill)

I am way behind on the comics - only have Long Way Home and No Future for You in Buffy (ordering them in book format from Amazon rather than comic by comic iyswim). Still waiting for Amazon to get hold of and dispatch After the Fall !

Looking forward to reading it though. I've never been in to graphic novels at all so finding them hard to follow - I know that makes me sound ridiculous! I don't always pick up on all the subtleties of what's happened in each frame - sometimes they're so detailed. I do think the art work is gorgeous. Some of the drawings are spot on for the original actors. Not so impressed with the Daniel Craig appearance!

I meant both of you on the thread there seem to be, how can I put it? common traits

some sci fi boards are not only geeky but super weirdo obsessive I used to think it was funny but these days I lack the time

yes I see what you mean, sorry, not exactly on the ball this afternoon

slayerette - it's a lot easier reading the book form than the comic I have to say. I'm really glad I've got them, but sometimes it can be a bit disjointed unless you continuously reread them. I only started reading graphic novels recently tbh (apart from Fray) - DH's always been into them, but I used to find them a bit mehh, but then I discovered the rather fantastic Preacher books and got hooked from there.

Sorry had to go and pick up my boys. DS2 now sat on my knee so makes typing harder.

Serenity - this is my first foray into posting on forums - just tend to read them before. I like the Mumsnet ones as the SFX ones etc do tend to be male/geek fests. I've just posted on the Supernatural thread so maybe we can revitalise it.

I agree SFXMum we do tend to be a tribe. One SciFi programme seems to lead into another intil you ealise you've turned into a SciFi geek without realising it . My DH tries to deny his inner geek but he watches them all with me.

Slayerette - I know what you mean about the comic format being hard to follow and retain in the memory. I have to reread the previous comic each time I get a new issue so I can remember what's happening. And I wasn't impressed with Daniel Craig either - not my cup of tea. More of a Spike/Doctor/Sam Winchester fan myself!!

Can I join in?

I have the first 3 angel comics after the tv series finished, I agree about prefering the TV format but I think that is just as I am used to it. The comics mean they can go more all out tho than a tv series, which I like.

May ask DP to get me the new buffy ones for my Bday.

SciFiFan · 08/07/2008 21:02

Course you can join in. I believe the Buffy ones are out in a book format now.

I wanna know when they'll be a Buffy/Angel cross-over (if ever) coz she still doesn't know that Spike is back does she!

I need to drag the beginning of S8 out 'cos I'm sure she does know he's back - Andrew meets him in S5 of Angel, and I'm sure he wouldn't keep it secret for that long. There's a picture of an Angel/Buffy/Spike sandwich iirc, B's dream or fantasy I think and I'm sure she wouldn't be imagining that without knowing he'd returned. Not likely to be a proper crossover though as Buffy is a Dark Horse publication, whereas Angel is with IDW

Report
slayerette · 09/07/2008 12:42

I didn't know they were with different publishers, serenity. What's IDW? I thought Joss was overseeing both series, which is why they're considered 'canon' [pride at knowing something emoticon] - surely he could put a crossover in if he wanted? It's not like with the tv series where they had to get the different studios to release the actors.

Report
SciFiFan · 09/07/2008 12:56

I like Spuffy moments also .

Serenity is right about the different publishing houses - apparently there are plans for cross-overs but both have to agree to it even though Joss oversees both.

Re Buffy and Spike - the whole Buffy dating the Immortal was put down as a lookalike in one of the first issues so Andrew was obviously 'covering' for the lookalike when he met Angel/Spike.

And yes I did like the dream sequence (gazes out of her office window remembering).
