some sort of game to encoourage children to encourage their parents to give up smoking.

the activities they were doing woudl be enough to make me need a ciggy

i find that program really odd.
it almost draws too much attention to smoking.

all the adults we're making jokes about having one last cig on the one i saw.
a bit strange.

what was your take on it?
i found it strange to see people smoking on kids tv.

didnt actually sit down and watch it,
was having a ciggy at the time (grin)

but i know schools etc encourage children to be very anti smoking, which can't be a bad thing and my dc have been very anti,
mummy, you will die,
but the idea of the show is so weird!

i couldnt bring myself to watch it,i was enraged enough when ds1 said i should go on it.allowing children to control their parents lives is not a good thing IMO.

TBH i was given the anti-smoking message loads at school.all it did was make me wonder why people did it if it was so bad, which eventually led me to finding out for myself.

exactly,
the children controlling the parents is wrong

I'm just glad this dad decided to go on the programme otherwise his heart condition may not have been detected until it was to late. I would love my dad to give up smoking for his sake and his grandchildrens and I'm 41 perhaps I'm weird and controlling.

it's just a bit odd.
i think anti-smoking campaigns need to be directed at parents not children.

could be upsetting. i speak as someone who lost their (heavy smoking) dad to lung cancer

dd1 was watching it, she was vaery interested. I wa a bit taken aback to see mum lying in bed dragging on a tab.

Parents are forever going on at their kids to be safe, careful, etc. It's onlt fair that children get to show just how much they care that their parents might be slowly killing themselves.

Children's opinions on the subject are just as valid.

i agree that childrens opinions are valid and they have the right to express their concerns to their parents, but i think things like this are taking it too far.childrens tv is meant to be entertaining, but i am starting to suspect subliminal messaging is going on

I don;t think it was a subliminal message, I think it was a very direct and open message. Smoking can kill you and your children are really bothered about that.

Pointydog I'm with you on this one. I believe a lot of the anti smoking charities are supporting this programme IMO this can only be a good thing. I thought the children were supporting and coaching their parents and were do it rather well. My nieces are 6 and 3 and they are already telling there grandad they want him to stop smoking.

Agree pointydog. Nothing subliminal about it - the message is very clear that smoking f*cks your body.

Really?i never knew that, thanks for telling me

pointydog · 24/02/2008 09:53

I'm not telling you. I'm giving justification for why I don't think there was any subliminal message.

my dad said he would give up smoking when his first grandchild arrived and lo and behold he did not! much to my annoyance that he still smoked in the computer room nextdoor to where we slept at his house!!

Divastrop · 24/02/2008 16:30

i was talking about childrens tv in general giving subliminal messages.

alfiesbabe · 24/02/2008 17:38

What subliminal messages though? You seemed to be referring to the smoking programme, where the message was anything BUT subliminal I'd say!!

no,i said childrens tv is meant to be entertaining-meaning childrens tv in general.as i said,i didnt even watch the smoking thing.
