Marmite as he is, the insight into our farming is alarming. It's worth watching for the characters.

I binged the whole series in 3 days. Found it exasperating, funny, informative and emotional in ample measure. My dh was recommended to watch it by work colleagues and I am eager for him to get through it so I can discuss it with someone. It was really thought provoking.

We just finished watching and I think it actually showed a better side of Jeremy. Maybe his TV personality is a bit of a persona? He’s right though, why are farmers going to do when their subsidy ends? That’s a very scary thing…

Jeremy Clarkson comes off well and people feel sorry for farmers. Genius when you think about it. Propaganda works I guess.

Another binge watcher.
Jeremy came off as a bit more sympathetic - he does twatty things but he sort of owns it, hard to explain!

Loved that Kaleb could put him right in his place.

The farming itself was fascinating... and worrying.

I bloody love Kaleb.

Loved it! I did feel quite annoyed when he sent Kaleb off to London in a huge truck thing to try and sell the Wasabi. Completely wasted trip and NOT environmentally friendly. Also, he is rich enough to pay for all the parking charges, but they are there to deter people like him! Just ill judged , wasteful and entitled.

It is an interesting insight into the problems farmers face, but it's an expensive hobby for him, not a livelihood. I'm sure the other farmers will watch it and feel quite irritated. If he has a problem he just throws money at it and brings in experts or help. It isn't real farming in that way, but an enjoyable programme, and Jeremy comes across as likeable in general. It would be heartening to see him ditch the gas guzzling vehicles and try to be more environmentally friendly. He also seems to want to cut across government rules and guidelines all the time just because he's Jeremy Clarkson, which is galling.

The owl boxes and efforts to plant wildflowers were encouraging, but otherwise it's lots of fertilisers and over priced stuff in the shop.

Really enjoyed this, opened my eyes to the farming life and stressors they face.

I think Clarkson came across well too - like you said @LilacSorbet he is a pillock often, but he owns it and isn’t afraid to admit when he gets it wrong. I do think his intentions are largely good, he admitted he was playing at farming and made reference to the fact he could afford to do so as he’s propped up by his career and all other farmers don’t have that luxury. He’s employing local people, caring for his land and attempting to make it productive.

Kaleb was hilarious, and we decided Gerald was Chadlington’s answer to Tiger King with the mullet and unintelligible speech!

I watched it over the last week and was very sceptical. My parents farmed rare breed cattle (albeit as a slightly odd hobby as they were wealthy). I think it did a great job highlighting how difficult it is to turn a profit, the minuscule crop profit after cost was awful.
I know many many farmers who’ve had to sell up or turn their farms into holiday parks or livery yards instead.

Kaleb needs his own show and I adored Gerald (I could understand him though… much to my DPs amusement - he already thinks I’m a bumpkin)

Really great TV

Clarkson is someone who can dish it out and take it back.

But anyway, a truly great programme.

Also binge watched it after a friend's recommendation and we all loved it, including DD (11). I think it did a really good job of highlighting the plight of farmers despite the fact that JC is obviously not in the same boat financially - 34p for those beautiful fleeces is dreadful.

I had really gone off JC, as the Top Gear stunts starting going way over the top towards the end (I never bothered with the Grand Tour), but I loved him in this. There were a few obvious just for TV bits, like sending Kaleb to London, but overall it was a brilliant series, and I would happily watch a sequel.

I loved it and found it funny and informative. I really think he was trying to highlight the difficulties farmers face. The cost of everything, the low fleece profit and the end profit on the crops was really shocking. He said several times he could go and do Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and keep funding things but other farmers didn’t have that. I don’t think he was pretending he was just a run of the mill farmer who relied on the farm for his livelihood. I felt he was trying to highlight the real difficulties farmers faced day to day and all the red tape and expenses. So he was moaning when he has to fill in the subsidy paper work for instance but I think it to show how much paperwork farmers have to contend with. He had his expert to help but it illustrated how detailed and paperwork oriented a regular farmer has to be on top of actually doing the farming.

For me the car journey to London was a bit of a tongue in cheek way of showing how crazy the London driving and parking rules are. Needing an app and to know everything in advance making it complicated. I don’t think he expected Kaleb to sell anything more just so we viewers could see the process he had to go through just to go to London for a day (it wouldn’t have been the same if Clarkson had gone as he knows all the London issues and how to deal with already).

I learnt more about farming than watching any other program and it’s made me more aware of the subsidy issues, low profits, sheep farmer issues, mad council rules for farm shops (why nothing out with their tiny area), how farmers are helping the environment and not just pouring chemicals on fields, etc etc etc. I thought it was interesting and entertaining.

Gerald - and his subtitles; and Jeremy's face as he talks - hilarious. The NSA guy telling Jeremy not to call him again. Kaleb constantly talking back. Jeremy crying when he had to cull the sheep. I'm only 3 episodes in and totally unexpectedly loving it.
